I think it's better to leave it untouched, and if you do paint it... paint it the "shadowline" color. It adds a nice bit of contrast and visually keeps the rear of the car from appearing to stand as narrow and tall as it does.

Gravity Autosports sells it painted gloss black (shadowline) for about 200 or 250 bucks (forget which), and painted to match a body color for 20 bucks more.

Nah, it make her butt look too big. It's the reason my 128 has a 135 rear bumper.

I bought a spare OEM one and it's being painted Shadowline black as we speak. Picking it up on Saturday morning. Will post pics before and after install.

I want a 135i rear bumper but painted + bumper is so pricey...

I think 1 color bumper + diffuser doesn't look as good IMO. If you wanted that get a 128i bumper

i think gloss black or a carbon fiber vinyl would look good... if you wanted to spend less than 1000 bucks on the real CF one

Much more expensive to get a 128i bumper than to paint the diffuser.

A light colored car with a dark shadowline color looks fine, but a dark colored car including the LeMans Blue with the crappy gray diffuser. No.

Therefore, paint the diffuser.

Jet black 1 with Jet black painted diffuser. I cut out the center and installed black mesh which I painted myself.

Installed. Took about 10 minutes. Cost me $200 for parts and paint.

Both Diffusers - side by side:

Couple of pix. Sorry about the bad light. Will add some daylight ones soon.
