The Euro/German spec cars AE ring's produce the same yellow-ish color as US models. Most guys seem to replace the H8 AE bulbs with Lux H8 or M-Tek bulbs of a whiter temp color. Some guys (like myself) prefer to have the AE ring coded to run a higher voltage(with the stock H8 bulbs). This makes the bulb look whiter. It's very easy to adjust, via a coding company. I had Thorsten at Car-coding.de do mine. Here is what is possible on our cars: http://car-coding.de/programmierungen.html |

Back to the topic: according to my knowledge there are some a la carte options in Europe which may be neither standart nor available as an option for US cars, I think they are the following options (to be confirmed by fellow forum members from US):
3AP Grey shade at the top of windscreen, 320 Model (M emblem) delete, 420 Darker tinted back side and back windows, 470 Front passenger seat ISOFIX with airbag deactivation (the back ISOFIXs are standart in all markets), 672 CD-Changer (not sure about US), 654 DAB-Tuner (again not sure), 7H9 Hands free with USB (simpler version available only for cars w/out nav. system) 493 Storage Package (content differs for cars with or without navigation, more equipment for cars w/out nav.: includes closed storage bin at the top of dash where navigation monitor is placed otherwise, nets at the back of front seats, a second cupholder instead of the i-drive for cars without i-drive, 12V at the trunk, additional lashes and fixing points as well as a small storage net at the trunk). |

Here is the German price list for the 1M. You can see ALL the various options you have to pay for over here. Nothing is free. Not even floor mats! Not even ones with orange stitching. lol 1er_M_Coupe_pricelist.pdf here is my attempt at BWM option codes from the above price list. Frieght is also another 1,000 euros from what I am told. Although you can save a little by doing your German delivery at the Welt instead of a local dealer/zentrum. All prices have the German 19% sales tax (MwSt) included. 1er M Coupe Base price: 50,500 euros Option number - price --- Metallic paint 660 euros #320 model number delete (debadge) n/c #760 shadowline trim 120 euros #423 velour foot mats F&R 100 euros #488 lumbar seats 280 euros #459 full electric seats R&L 1,250 euros #534 Klima automatic A/C 560 euros #3AP grey upper tint on 90 euros Top of windshield #420 sun protection glass 350 euros #507 rear PDC park distance 450 euros #524 AHL adaptive headlights 410 euros #5AC auto high beams 150 euros #563 ambient lighting 200 euros #521 rain sensor w/auto lights 130 euros #302 alarm system 480 euros #473 front arm rest (center) 150 euros #313 outside mirror package 250 euros #442 extra drink holder 40 euros #431 auto dimming inside mirror 170 euros #430 inside AND outside mirror 480 euros Package #470 passenger side ISOFIX 90 euros #322 comfort access 620 euros #441 smokers package ashtray 30 euros #468 ski sack 180 euros #663 radio professional 210 euros #7KA Navi professional 2,790 euros #7KB Navi professional 3,450 euros w/BMW online, w/BMW traffic & asst. #7H9 hands phone kit 300 euros #7H8 phone prep w/usb 650 euros #672 6-CD changer incl MP3s 430 euros #654 DAB tuner 410 euros #676 HiFi stereo 540 euros #688 HK stereo 980 euros #6NR BMW apps 150 euros #6NF music interface 100 euros For smart phones #493 storage package 130 euros Other options… #E4A CF rear trunk spoiler 389 euros #EFA CF mirror caps 498 euros --- shadow line grills 82 euros #P8A M performance alcantra 590 euros Steering wheel --- trim for alcantra wheel 51 euros #PAA Perf sport seats L or R 1,575 euros each! #SYA I think this is perf stripes 219 euros (M Perf stripes colors) #P6A Perf stripes (black or white) 149 euros #PYA winter wheel package 2,224 euros 8jx18 non RFT snow tires 235/40-18’s #LXA wheel lock set 49 euros F8A rubber floor mats front 40 euros Rear 20 euros |

US models also get 4 sensors, one inside each tire valve stem. The indirect method of determining an under inflated tire by measuring rotational speed variances due to differing tire diameters isn't accurate enough to meet US code.
What I understand from reading the manual is that US cars use both the direct (pressure sensors) and indirect (ABS monitoring) methods. |

Dackelone.. thanks for your responses, very helpful information. One more thing regarding the lights.. can you show some pictures of your lights after the coding has been done. Thanks

The biggest visual feature I have notices on Euro vs US... The Euro headlight come with clear corners as us we get the orange reflectors. I wonder why? Hmmmm

this one was with the car(engine) off, I just hit the key fob to activate the lights... (the AE's are brighter when the car is running!) the engine was running in this shot... The main difference I noticed after I had my AE voltage coded (higher)was that the light thrown up on my garage wall when I unlock the car (and the AE's lit up) was about twice as bright than before - they were coded. Yes. Switzerland does have a better warranty than the same BMW model sold in Germany. I think in CH the cars are also cheaper (than German prices) aren't they? My point is that a BMW in the USA has a longer and better coverage warranty than the same model sold in Germany. Plus the German model costs about 35% more than a US model. |

unfortunately not... in Switzerland cars are quite a bit more expensive. A 1M is about 80k CHF with the needed options and 1EUR is 1.25CHF.

WoW! So a 1M costs about 100K euros! Yikes! And in Germany the base price is 50K euros but most are in the 58 to 65K range.

But still, with the VAT being only 8% compared to the 19% in Germany it is quite a rip-off with the current weak euro (and low EUR-CHF exchange rate) |
