Saw the M2 today
Took my 1m to be serviced today at Lancaster BMW Milton Keynes and the salesman i know there took me round the back to show me the first of the 3 M2s they have coming in. It was on blocks, so sitting high.
Trying to be unbiased about it, but it hasn't changed my opinion of how it looks at all. Usually, cars tend to look better in the flesh, but i was underwhelmed. It did look good, for sure and the front a bit less overkill than i thought vs the pictures i'd seen, but overall it didn't have have the WOW factor for me. Front wheel arches wide but much less pronounced than the 1M, and the flare out to the rear arches stood out, but the whole shape was,,, "smooth/rounded" for want of a better description. 1M without doubt in my view is the more individual and aggressive shape. Interior was very nice, standard BMW. Some alcantera with blue stitching. The other issues i have with the M2 are the lack of exciting colours and the boring wheels. E46M3 CSL or 1M wheels are simply awesome! Anyway, i took a few pictures with the phone and a v quick vid of the sound which was v similar to the 1M to my ears.... It's the rear of the car I can't wrap my head around.

It looks fat...oh wait...it is fat at 3450.
I think a CSL version with a manny tranny could fix that.

On a side note, i recently drove a friends M4 and noted how poor the handling was- turned out bmw had left those delivery blocks in when they pdi'd the his car..
Sat in the M2 at the weekend- not keen on the looks but have to concede that the driving position is way better than any other M car except my CSL. cheers Jamie

Saw and sat in the M2 at the NYC Auto Show. I actually like the more spartan look and feel of the 1M interior, particularly the steering wheel. The overall look, to me, is fine, but I too do not favor the rear or the standard wheels. It would certainly be fun to drive one back to back with my 1M. If it is "easier/more forgiving" then that is not my thing. I love my 1M and my 1987 Porsche 911, both cars where you have to stay alert to drive aggressively.

Only thing I like about the M2......is the blue
I'll keep my VO (thank you very much!) and if I ever get tired of looking at (not gonna happen), I'd get it wrapped (in blue) Makes me wonder what a VO M2 would look like |

I second pretty much all said here... Saw the car at the geneva motor show earlier this year. Maybe my expectations were too high but I have to say I was a bit "disappointed" by the M2.
The one thing which disappointed me the most was the interior... ok yes you get the alcantara and the blue stitching but overall I felt the quality was not quite up there. The plastics looked quite cheap (like the ones on the side indicators and rear diffuser) and those carbon trims are really a no-go for me, they would have been better with glossy finish, or simply alcantara. I didn't really feel like being inside a "special" car.. we are talking about the M2 here, the top-of-the-line for the BMW 2 series. But unfortunately, I didn't feel like it. BMW took few compromises to keep the costs down on the M2, but maybe they could have pushed a bit more, especially on the interior imho. On the exterior, I was impressed by the front and side view.. really sick! And those front fins which by looking at the first pictures were awkward to me, now they make sense and they fit the design. It's the rear though which I cannot force myself to like it.. those tail lights and the trunk lines they are just not my cup of tea. I am sure this car will drive beautifully and will be faster than its predecessor, but would I trade my 1M for the M2? No Would I consider the M2 if I didn't have my 1M? Yes Few pictures and details from the show: PS: next to the M2 there was an M4 ZCP. That had a sweet interior, but of course we are talking about a car on a different league |

Well, we had one in the auto show here a while back, but it's all locked up (since I think that particular car might have been "sold" already). None of this "doors and hood opened so come sit and take a look".

I kid... I'm on the wait-list for the M2 CSL. This chunky monkey is just "meh" IMO but I have no seat time in it either. Actually...I think "Chunky Monkey" and "Seat Time" are also bars in Pat Pong. |
