Yes i know. But it hard to find a test drive overhere. But when i do you will read my opinion!

I have really configured an M3/M4 and i almost did it. But when i saw the size of the car and compared it with the 1M. I knew i will get disappointed with the agility. That is why the 1M is so much fun. To throw it around corners make hairpin turns. The 1M is for me the escort mk2 rally car. It is so much fun!

I am picking up my F80 in 2 weeks (ED for 10 days) and will report back. After my M4 test drive I can say the F8x are great cars that will complement the 1M, not replace...

I have just driven an M4 DCT.

The engine is fantastic really really awesome. But the first i noticed when driving away it has no nimbleness like the 1M Coupe. The M4 does not feel like it is 1500kg. It s in my eyes closer in feel to an M5/M6 then an 1M coupe.

When i first drove a 1M coupe i was convinced to buy one instantly. The M4 has not convinced me so fast. Is it worth to buy alone for the engine? For me no. I rather have an agile car. My quess is that the wheelbase of the M4 kills of all the fun which i am looking for in a car.

The perfect companion for an 1M coupe is an M3. I really see no point at all to use an M4 as a trackday car in my case. To use a 4 door M3 as a daily drive oh yess!!! It s much more fun then an M5 for sure.

I just have to wait for an M2 then. All i hope for is that bmw keeps the wheelbase as short as possible and make it lighter then the 1M coupe.

The long wait begins but after driving the M4 i know now you just don t get bored driving the 1M coupe. What a Car it is.

Thanks a lot for sharing your impressions, sure I am not surprised with any of them!

I have driven the M4 and owned a 1M 3 years.

M4 DCT was a lot faster in terms of raw power.

Steering better than I expected, 1M is still tops.

Interior of M4 with full leather, head up, CF, etc much nicer than 1M.

If the 1M was just an every day common BMW I'd have already swapped it for a next gen M3/4.

I'd love the new M3, but I would need to sell the 1M in order to fund it, and I fear that this would be a cataclysmic mistake. As a daily driver yes, but as a replacement for the 1M? Nah!

saw an M4 in the flesh today....very underwhelming. Didn't look very aggressive at all......looked like a 435 with a carbon roof. The fenders are not wide at all...

My 1m fits in my garage with plenty of space for the stacks of spare wheels and tires in front of it. The M4 is way longer.. really a big car to me.. and while in some ways it looks smaller than an E90.. it's not.. Curb weights for the F8x are around 3550 lbs, about 120 lbs less than the E90 but still at least 200-300 lbs more than the 1m. Lots of power but still a lot of weight to lug around.

Hmmmmm I was thinking of the Ford RS200!

Like you, I really like agility. Of course.. I came from an E30 M3... so even the 1M feels heavy to me.. but of course there is just a sick amount of torque. When I got to meet with M engineers, I told them that they need to reduce weight. They asked about the E9x.. is it impressive... and I said yes.. but still heavy.. they mentioned buy yes it has plenty of power...414 is plenty no? and I said yes... But I still feel all the weight. The E90 M3 gets out of it's own way pretty well because of the great motor.. but it's still just a lot of weight to move. And of course fuel mileage was abysmal. They did indicate that they are working to make the cars lighter... and while the F80 is lighter.. it's not nearly light enough. 15-20 years of weight additions cant be rolled off in one model year apparently. It should be closer to 3350. If the new M2 can get to 3100 lbs that would be impressive and really make me consider it....

I think the 1M fenders have spoiled us and nothing will ever measure up! Lol! The M2 will have to have the fenders from the 2 series racing just to keep up with the 1M's beautiful cartoonish looks. After almost three years of ownership....I still spend way too much time gawking! (Especially since I just gave a good detail and some Dr. Colorchip luvin'! )

agreed. the fenders on the 1M have me spoiled senseless! ha. My feeling is that the M2 will be more like the M4. the 1M was 'limited edition' so i feel like BMW felt they could get away with insane styling and not really interfere with M3 sales. If the M2 becomes a serial mass production car, then i think they will have to tame the styling so it doesn't make the M4 look even less aggressive than it already does...IMO.

I have no desire for an M2, regardless of specs or the delivery. Made sure to wrestle with that option before jumping on the 1M. Whether they release it in massive or limited volumes, or both via the current style of limited editions, the 2 has moved too far away in style and quirkiness for me to appreciate it as others will be able to.

I couldn't handle the M4 I was in. I'm sure it's great, but I can't deal with owning a car that large, nor do I really care to. It goes where you need it to, and doesn't feel as large as one would think it would judging from its footprint. But I'm guessing that fact is rather a case of superior tinkering masking such a quality instead of true agility prowess. In the end, whatever is going on does successfully pull it off, and I'm sure there is room for even more improvement once the after market groups fettle with the suspension. It just wasn't for my particular tastes. While I didn't drive one hard enough or take it through a course long/technical enough to honestly matter much, I did notice that the steering felt a bit too distant and clinical for my tastes - which I had an issue with in a Cayman.

So - it feels incredible when doing a maneuver, but it's partly due to surprise that it actually can do so. With a numbered M car, it shouldn't be such a surprise, but the base cars have already exceeded a size for them to appeal to me. Some people like it, and all the benefits of luxury that can be accommodated with the extra room. Such people will love the car - again, steering feel isn't to my preferences, but it does do handle extraordinarily well.
