Yes, have them change your oil out, don't wait. They need to use a LL-01 approved oil. There are no 10W-30 oils that are LL-01 approved. Who changed your oil? Need to use a 5w-30/5w-40 or 0w-30/0w-40 oil. Don't just use any synthetic 5w-30 either.

The correct Mobil 1 (only one acceptable to BMW) is the European 0-40W. I get it at Walmart in 5 qt containers for about $25.

Please define "The Shop".

Do they know anything about these cars?

There is only about 1 cup of oil in the filter housing, would not worry about it.

Well... since they used the wrong oil what are the chances they used a BMW oil filter and not some el cheapo cartridge filter? IF it were me... I would go buy a BMW oil filter and replace that too, when you change the oil. Better safe than sorry.

Yes, the Mobil-1 oil in your Walmart link is the correct oil Just make sure it says BMW approved LL-1 somewhere on teh back of the bottle. But I believe only M1's 0w40 european blend meets BMW LL1 specs.

Here is @JimD 's excellent DIY...

All i know is that i'm never taking my car to any shop again
A Mann HU-816X is a good filter to use for your car. Should work just as good as a BMW filter (in fact Mann makes the BMW filter as well).
