How do i get my ipod to play?

I have a 2011 135i with no I-drive. I think it is just the base radio. I bought a y-cable from bmw and plugged it in under the armrest.when I plug in my iphone6 I can select ipod on the audio menu, the song will show on the display but it does not play through the speakers. Everything seems to work. I can skip songs.change artists ect. but nothing from the speakers.
What am I doing wrong? Also is there any way to play music with an sd card?

Is the phone on vibrate? What volume level is the phone on?

"One point I noticed is that if you have your music on your iPhone/ipad streamed through iCloud but not actually downloaded on the device, it's not going to play through the USB cable. It would play through Bluetooth though.

The only way to have the music play through the USB cable is to have it downloaded on your apple device through iTunes or by hitting the iCloud sign next to the song on your apple device. I did it through the regular charging cable."

The Bluetooth aspect probably doesn't apply.

The Music Is Downloaded To The Phone. Also Tried Pandora.same Result Shows Up On The Screen But Does Not Play Through The Speakers. Maybe The Radio Is Bad?

Have you run your vin on one of the decoder sites bmw vin decoder to see what options you have?

For example I have:
6FL USB-/AUDIO INTERFACE
6VC CONTROL COMBOX
676 HIFI LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM

On my car the Y cable isn't needed. Just plug my iPhone into the USB using the iPhone cable. The headphone jack isn't used.

I actually upgraded to the Tune2Air now and just stream using Bluetooth. Phone in my pocket. Sound is great.

I Dont Know The Codes. It Has The Usb And Aux Rins Under The Armrest. Like I Said Earlier The Songs Show Up On The Display, Just No Sound

I don't use Apple products, nor do I have USB so I can't really mess with things to see if I can help. All I know is I read a lot of similar complaints for this.

I've read of configurations using only USB to play and others requiring USB + Aux. Then some people report different problems with the various iPhone platforms as well as their respective iOS. Play with your setup and see if you can get anything to work - You might get lucky.

Have you tried updating the software of your car? I know I did at least 2 updates on my car since buying it new.

Todd k - did you ever get this figured out? I have a 2011 135i as well (with the 6FL USB/audio interface). I was never able to get my iPhone (5 and 6) to display any music on my head unit, even though BMW says the Y-cable should do it (it didn't).

I have a 08 135i went to the dealer and tried out the newest Y-cable, nothing.

Was very disappointing as I was hoping to be able to control my Iphone 6s+ through the steering wheel. I hate having to touch my phone to control the songs, now most times I just use my apple watch, but I still have to take a hand off the wheel to do this.

ANYONE with an 08 have success with ANY y-cable and an Iphone 6s+?

I have an iPhone 5s and a 2009 128i with the USB and aux jacks, no I-Drive (677 radio FWIW). I am using the old Y-cable (30pin) and the Apple 30pin-to-Lightning adapter, and it works great. Song names display on the radio and the steering wheel controls work.

I have a suspicion that the new Y-cable (Lightning) doesn't work with the old cars for some reason.
