Key Fob - Washer & Dryer

I'm sure this has happen to others and unfortunately it has happen to me too. I placed my key fob in a sweater jacket pocket and it ended up being washed and dried. I do not place my house key and other keys with my key fob so thats why I usually forget where I place it at times.

The key still works to turn on the car but it does not work in locking/unlocking or rolling the windows downs. Not sure if its due to the battery are gone or it needs to be recoded. I have taken it apart and rinse it with distilled water to rid it of any soap residue. Even if I wanted to replace the battery not sure how to do it since the battery is tacked on like a small weld to it. Any help or advice is appreciated.

I droped my key fob in my dogs water bowl the other day. My car keys hang on the wall right above my pets food and water bowls. Talk about panic!! I dried it off right away and it works fine. Sorry to hear you sent yours through the entire wash and dry cycle. I'd contact the dealership about that one. I know the batteries are not replaceable they are rechargable type that recharge everytime you insert the key fob into the ignition slot. Not sure why one feature would work and not the other? Sounds like you may need to purchase a new key fob or use your spare.

There's a bunch of threads here about key replacement -- run some searches. It's expensive, iirc.

I know they are very expensive to replace even to code. I see that many still work after similar situation. Wanted to know if someone was in my same shoes (washer and dryer) who could chime in and did not have to recode replace but got to work applying something else.
