i just called the number on the SMH article... they still dont have the list. if you bought your bmw 2nd hand used you can do the ownership transfer and they will update the database so you will be automagically updated if your car is affected by the issue.

The service guys at BMW Sydney were very slow to respond so I spoke with BMW Aus last week and they said that they cross check the list with each state's motoring body E.g. RTA, Vic Roads etc. before sending out the recall letters.

They also said that they still do not know which batches are effected and that those letters will be going out to the effected owners at the end of March to early April.

Booked my car in for a supernumerary ( don't know what else to call it, an extra oil change outside of the regular scheduled change. I do them when the dash countdown tells me it's 10,000 to the next one. ) oil change yesterday and was told that there is no battery cable recall notice for my 1M. He had other cars in for a battery cable replacement, mostly x5s.

I was called by Westside today advising my 3 series is on the list being recalled. Said they would need the car for a couple of hours. Booked in for next week. Polite and efficient. Once there ill check if my 1 er is going to need the same but I don't think it will.

I rocked up to Bris BMW this morning only to be told that the parts (for the whole dealership) are still on order and not in yet. THEN WHY BOOK ME IN?
What a waste of sleeping time!

VGR00 I'd check if they have parts before turning up!

It might be posted somewhere but here is the picture describing the issue.
It says that they will replace the connector to a new redesigned one and fix it with a bolt to reduce vibration.
The cable will be fixed with a bolt also.

Thanks LINWE ... just called Westside to confirm and the service manager assured me the parts all arrived late last week. I'm booked in for tomorrow.

Awesome! They called me today saying parts were coming this arvo so I'm booked for next Tues. Wish I could get to Westside as I've only heard good things but it's a massive detour from where I live and where I work...

I just had mine done here in Stuttgart, Germany on Monday. They have to remove the dash of the car to do this work. No coding involved at all. takes about 4-5 hours.

To the guys who have had their cars fixed in Australia... Did they have to remove your dash?

I'd rather not have them removing anything in the interior. In my experience all this does is introduce rattles and noises in the long run. It's never going to be as tight again once they disassemble it.

yeah, I will get it done but I'm also curious if it is a legal requirement to have it done? can you sign a waver to say "I didn't want the fix, let it burn!"?

Just received a letter from BMW Australia. My car is affected, the letter states they have to remove the glovebox and access the fusebox. I don't think they will need to remove whole dash.

No..... The dash is not removed. Its not very invasive as i thing its just a connector on the back of the fusebox. The job is completed in about 1.5 to 2 hours.
