x-35 engine black puff?
Guys,
I'm a little confused and i'm not sure what i'm seeing. But over the past few months while driving behind other BMW's that share the same twin turbo engine as ours I've noticed something a little odd that I haven't seen since the old Ford Probe Turbo's or the old Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbos. When the car ahead accelerates quickly / hard I've noticed a substantial puff of rather acrid black smoke. What is this all about? i'm more familiar with the VW turbos and they don't do this. what's up with it? any thoughts? |

What were the conditions where you saw this? I may have to have a friend follow just to see if it looks like I'm driving an old MB Diesel Wagon, they look like a tire fire.
Other hand maybe it's the carbon from the intake valves! |

Not sure if this is proof, but after I had my intake valves walnut blasted, I no longer have black smoke burp out of the car. The first time I saw the black smoke was while I had the car dyno'd.
