128i Coupe Wheel Fitment
Hi Guys,
I have received so much varying wheel fitment answers to my problem that I have a major headache. Several months ago I picked up a CPO 2008 128i coupe with no sport package. Original wheels are 17 by 7 with an offset of 47mm. Tire size is 205/50/17 runflats. The Tire Rack website shows that I can go to a 205/55/16 tire for winter tires and they actually recommend a narrower tire for winter use. I am trying to get an extra set of wheels in 17 or 16 inch size for snow tires. Some people have told me that wheels from an E46 series will fit but others have told me that all of them will not. When I locate a nice set of wheels I show pictures to my dealer and they say that they will not fit (of course they are trying to get me to buy everything from them.) Are any of you aware of some type of reference guide which will show me what is compatible with my car? I would certainly hate to buy a set of wheels and later find out that they do not fit. If you can shed some light on this issue it would be greatly appreciated. You can send me an e mail at eo145@aol.com. Thanks folks! Ed |

with tires that narrow, you're not likely to run into many fitment issues. offsets between roughly 50 and 35 should work. i can't speak for brake clearance, but i'd guess the vast majority of e36 (all), z3 (non-m), z4 (non-m) and e46 (non-m) will fit.

It will be a bit tough. 16" barrels can clear the 128i rotors but you will have to worry about the spoke to caliper clearance. The only way you would be able to do so is to physically test fit the wheel before purchase. Generally high offset wheels with flat faces due have some problems.

another thought
I know this isn't actually your question but as I have the same car, I thought that I would offer what I did. I used the stock wheels and put stock size all season tires on them, winter tires is of course an option, and then I bought another set of upgraded wheels, light 18" with summer tires for the rest of the year. Everything fits quite well and the summer setup is better than it was stock.
