I believe that is why the designer made the side lines aggressive as well since just an aggressive bulge wouldn't look good.

Hood should be on SLeK's shop 1M later this week along with the trunk and they will provide more pictures then.

SLeK recommends hood pins if you plan to track/race your car. But this hood is made in the USA with extremely durable materials so I believe you should be fine with regular use without hood pins. But with anything it would be better safe than sorry if you plan on going over 120mph.

It's good insurance to have hoodpins although imho they do detract from the aesthetics. It's better to play it safe though. Youtube hoods flying off and you will see what I mean. If any air is getting in underneath the hood it can create a lot of pressure, so the faster you go, the more pressure it creates.

They already have about 3 hoods that need to be made; HP Autowerks 1M, SLeK's 1M shop car and mine since I told them I'm buying it for sure after seeing it in person.

You can PM me though if you want to buy it and I can see if I can get you on the list for one of the first ones since your local.

Btw I received a PM asking about weights:

Stock hood is around 44 pounds. The double sided carbon SLeK hood should be around 16pounds. I will get official numbers from SLeK when I can though.

Personally, I still think the trunk is over the top. Now this hood, seems like its going right down the same path. Personally I prefer Clean, OEM+1 style. That hood looks like you could cut a scoop in the front of it...

My idea would be...look at the m3 hood, copy it, and scale it down to fit the 1 series in the same ratio the m3 hood does. Just MHO.

It all depends on what mods your car has. The trunk fit my car perfectly fine and looks amazing but that is because I have rims, suspension, cf front lip, cf diffuser, etc. My car is highly modded so it looks good. The hood will also look good and flow with all of the mods.

Also SLeK is going to be releasing a FULL 1M kit which includes many other parts not just a lip, hood and trunk. All of those pieces will be aggressive and compliment each other. But for us their 135i front lip looks good and then the trunk + hood compliment it.

Ok so first off, don't take this as a personal attack, I am just looking to create a discussion, but that is a pretty subjective statement.

Secondly, that is your opinion. You may think your car is tastefully modded, and looks good. Others may not. I think your car is great looking, but would look better without the trunk, a less aggressive trunk, or stock trunk with a CF lip. Thats my opinion. I also think in current form, that hood would look gaudy as heck on yours or anyone’s car.

Either way, you or I can have our opinions, but to come off as "this is the best taste", but only if you have certain mods is a bit uppity. Who are we to decide whats "tasteful or not." That being said, the following is my opinion and suggestions:

Any part thats not some part of a full body kit, wide body deal, or something along those lines, should look good on any E8x. If it doesn’t, its too aggressive for a street car right off the bat. I like to emulate what BMW designed, add some subtle, and functional parts.

For example:
My car has all the parts you listed. But it still looks like a classy 135i, with subdued, race inspired accents. Not with a huge wale tale and shaker hood. Its just my opinion, but besides the front lip, I wouldn't touch those ascetic wise, on “fully modded JDM sho-kah” or a stock non-sport 128i. For me, the designs are just too over the top. But if your into that type of attention, or looking to have something different, I feel like these are the designs for you. I like OEM+1.

Juxtapose; I guess. But its going to be hard for you to look someone in the face if your going to argue the fact of functionality over form, with the current marketing on the first 3 products from Slek we have seen. Last time I checked they aren’t marketing them as race-car parts.

On the other hand, quality and fitment are obviously top notch and per dollar I don't think you can go wrong with Slek parts for those aspects. On top of it all, they are claimed American made, another plus! It is the designs, and over aggressive styling I don't particularly care for.

I feel if they were to tone the hamman /ac schnitzer ques down a bit would better serve the customers, open it up to a broader appeal, and at the end of the day sell way more units.

The best example I can come up with here is the final revisions to the slek m-sport bumper lip. The first revision I feel was akin to the trunk, and hood in current form. After they revised it, it looked GREAT! The lip is still noticeable, functional, and quality. <<<

I may be totally off base here, but for the purposes of a street car, I imagine I am not the only one that feels like this.

Plus, after its all said and done...I want you to make them the way I want. So I can buy them lol

Flamesuit...ON.

I don't feel like responding to every single point in your post because then it will turn into a back and forth 5 page long thread so let me just say: the mold is done for the hood, it won't change. If you can convince 10 others to select a hood design you like then SleK will make a new mold and make you that hood. Simple.

I personally like aggressiveness and others on this forum do as well. That is the way I am going with my car.

I think keep the hood as it is and I like that looks aggressive. I'll see how it turns out once it's fitted to the car and then decide if I want M3 style honeycomb vents or not.
