Dms Automotive

Has anyone heard about this UK based company? i was at my BMW service guy today and he said they re map the ECU raising the kw from standard 225 to 270 kw---no plug and play and totally undetectable.

2bob, Was your discussion with a "certain" BMW facility in Brookvale, on Pittwater Rd? Or was it in the "back streets" of brookvale, or elsewhere?

It was elsewhere---European Autotech at Mona Vale. Derek has done some Porsches and Audi but not yet done BMW

Derek has done some 335i's and as far as I know, satisfied customers. One guy's 335 was up around 500hp from memory (did a bit more than just chipping it).

the results are good, mainly mid range gains I noticed however the increased torque would help off the line. It is an expensive way to get that gain though considering a JB3 does a similar job however if you are as paranoid about warranty as I am then its really your only option. on a more sad note, I will be saying bye bye to my 1er in the near future in an attempt to free up some cash and buy more property. I will be very sad to see it go as I have had alot of fun in it but you never know I might be reunited with the 1 series in the future. if anyone is interested in my car and wants more details or pics dont hesitate to contact me.

Cheers,

Matt.

When you say expensive, would you mind quoting a price? I'm a bit worried about warranty issues on using a JB3 or SSTT myself (given I can't afford to fix it if it f^@ks up!) so if this is a nice stealth option then I'm interested.

Re flashes will tend to run you 1200 bucks or more. A pin-out JB3 unit will run you 350. If you are worried about warranty issues, buy a BT scanner with the 850 you save and then you can scan your own car and take it in to the dealer problem and code free.

Oh and btw a BT scanner is only 200 bucks. So, get something nice with that extra 650

I paid just over 2k for mine. for me its worth it because I have no clue about how to use bt scanner when the computer throws codes. you can just "trial and error" and learn how to use those tools, I just didnt want to risk it with such an expensive car. I believe you cant put a price on a factory backed warranty on an 80k car but this is just my oppinion

I called up DMS this morning.

The cost is $2400 and you go from 225kw to 270kw and from 400nm to 500nm. He also said they cover your warranty in the event that the tune is the cause of something going wrong. They also said it is completely undetectable by BMW. I'm still a bit unsure... $2400 is pretty steep and JB3 seems to give you more power.

Does anyone know if I'm able to get future mods later down the track... ie. intake exhaust and I won't need to get a retune?

the JB3 doesnt actually give you more power on its own Vs the reflash. I have been to willowbank raceway with a fellow 1addict that has JB3 and our times were very similar. my quickest time was a 13.17 and his was 13.20 so as you can see there is very little difference in them. He drove a manual and mine was auto. The price is very high I agree but this is 100% undetectable by bmw unless they whack the thing on a dyno themselves so this is why i chose this option.

thanks for the reply orlin. i've never tracked my car before but i imagined that with a dms reflash or jb3 you would be somewhere in the mid to high 12s? you mentioned your car is a auto but in your sig it says its 6 speed.

also can you please give me an insight into what the gains are like on a roll from 60 or 80 etc. how many car lengths extra does it give you as opposed to stock.

no worries mate, it is 6speed tiptronic. we only got 3 passes each and it was my first time so I beleive with some more runs I probably could have gotten into the high 12s. it was hard to launch the auto :P but like everything practise makes perfect. I can not tell you how many car lengths exactly I got more then the standard but I can email you my dyno sheet and you will see some pretty good gains mid range and I can definatley notice it when driving, more so then when taking off. I hope this helps.

Can't speak for re flashes but, JB3 will adapt to all modifications (exhaust, intake and FMIC). So, I don't see why the DMS reflash would not. That is a big selling point in my opinion. Either way you go, you will be happy.

As for the question regarding how many car lengths you will gain with a tune, check this out.

The camera car is a 330i, the car in the middle is a Procede V3 335i (similar to Jb3 performance wise), and the car to the left is a stock 335i.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. But the 330i looks like its keeping up with the stock 335i early in the race and it has an extra person?
