How are your RFTs going?

Hi all

I've just been informed I have about 2mm to the worn indicators on my rear RFTs......after 15,000kms! I don't do burnouts.

How are your RFTs going?

Have to admit I won't be replacing them but will go for some decent non-RFT rubber that rides a bit better - any suggestions?

Many thanks

As far as I know many people like Michilin PS2. I have some P Zero Rosso on the 318 at the moment and they feels better than the Conti2s that I had.

My wife's 120d's tyre still got good thread at 33k though... and she always launches hard in her car..

Are you sure you got new rubbers when you bought your car?

Yes, the stock RFTs seem to wear out quickly. We can't have the best of both worlds. With all this power and performance, we have to sacrafice tire longevity. My bud's 135 has about 13k miles on it and he is starting to shop for new tires in the rear.

On my e36 M3 I have a ratio. For every one set of front tires I consume two sets of rear tires. I assume the same will hold true on the 135.

i noticed the tread depth on my RFT's aren't as deep as 'normal' road tyres from new. I hope no one was doing burnouts on my car at the docks or showroom!

From my professional guestimate measurement... (I do a lot of mm work in my office ^^"). The centre has a good 8mm while the size has 3-4mm only. I think if the camber cannot be increase, I will increase the air in the tyre to combat size wearing

Well...I can't categorically say yes but you'd assume they'd put new rubber on a new car.

I've also noticed a bit of feathering on both rear tyres and the edge tread depth ain't that great either.

I replaced mine with Dunlop SportMaxx's when I bought the Prof's wheels this year and they are fine for the road. However the right front is totally mullered now from a couple of visits to Eastern Creek as I don't have camber plates.
I would recommend them for road.

I'm at 9100km and have about 2mm on the rears, before I reach the TWI points. I think I might get 12000-13000km out of the rear tyres.

My RFTs are gone. I replaced them PS2s today. But before then I had 6500 miles and about 1/3 tread left.

So it looks like the Michelin PS2 are the way to go? On the factory rims would you suggest 223/40/18 on the front and 255/35/18 on the rear?

Does anyone have an idea on Oz pricing for the PS2?

You would have thought they'd gone USB by now!

RFT's

Just a thought for those of you leasing. It may be worth considering replacing your RFT's before they reach the tread wear indicators and storing the tyres in the garage to be refitted to the car before the end of your lease. If you time this right, you might save yourself some dollars in the end.

Depending on the terms and conditions of your lease, BMW (or the lessor) may require RFT's on the car when it is handed back. BMW's full circle program comes to mind here. If you return the car with non-RFT's on it, no matter what the condition, they may add the price of 4 new RFT's tyres to your residual.

I haven't confirmed this with BMW so this is just speculation but may be worth considering if it applies to you.

I have PS2 in my RX-8. They have lasted over 30000km and still have over 3mm left.

Try this:

Remember: poor prior planning leads to piss-poor performance.

I've not used the PS2's on the 1er, but reckon they'd work really well.

I've got the larger size on my std rims and a) its looks sweet from the rear & b) helps reduce understeer slightly. But that's irrelevant on the road.
