130i Revs 'sticking'
Hi Guys,
I've done about 3500kms on my new BMW 130i M sport and i'm still loving it. Today i gave it a boot (up to about 5000rpm in second) up the hill to my place then slowed down to approach my driveway. I put it back into first gear and slowly entered the driveway. As i coordinated clutch and accelerator into my driveway i noticed that when i revved then engine up to 1500 and released it, the engine would hover around 1100rpm for a second before dropping back to idle. I thought this was weird so i just decided to rev the engine for the hell of it to see what happened. No matter what RPM i revved the engine to, when I took my foot off the accelerator the needle would pause at 1100rpm (for about a second and a half) before dropping to idle. Could this be something to do with the VANOS system? I hope my engine isnt buggered... everything else seems fine. Help! Joe |

Hi Joe!
And welcome This happened at about the same km's for me in the 125, driving in full auto. I was going up a pretty sizeable hill at 70km/h, and i let my foot off the accelerator and it stayed at 70km/h. Held its speed for about 20 seconds with the revs at about 2500. I thought my cruise control was on, but flicked it in case and it kept going. It was pretty strange and my stealership couldn't explain it. It hasn't done it ever again (because that's the only time i drove in full auto, i'm always in DSM). Glad to see you're loving the 130. You should ask woosh about the 130 vs 125 Cheers, Alex |

I havent done it on a BMW 130i before but on every other car you remove the intake pipe from the intake manifold and gently wipe the butterfly(throttle plate) and inside the body opening with some throttle body cleaner (I use Nulon). Some throttle plates have a special coating so it is best to to be too abrasive. Because BMW use a fly-by-wire setup I am not sure how to open the throttle plate...on a standard wire you would simply pull back the throttle hammer.

Thanks Woosh...
It happens occasionally.... i remember with my Clio Sport there used to be a weird vibration around 1100rpm and apparently it was the vvt changing or something to that effect. So i'm assuming its something similar. Woosh, what colour is your car? |

May I remind you that you've only beaten me once, and that was in variable conditions. In suitable conditions, I refer you to this post: 130 gets pwnd again. btw, up for a photo shoot tonight? |

Shame, might go out myself and scope a few places for some pics. I need a tripod badly. Used to have on but can't find it - must have sold it with my old 350D.
