3M tape for license plate mount?

I no live in a state which requires a front plate to be mounted however I am not ready to drill and I don't care for the no drill alternatives out there. I am thinking of using 3M heavy duty foam adhesive tape to secure my plates to the front bumper. Has anyone tried this? Does it stay secure? Any troubles removing if needed/paint damage?

I know I could probably run without a plate for a while but would rather not draw more attention to myself.

Www.gominigo.com has front plate mounts that go in the tow hook recepticle. They are high quality, and work well!

I've held all my euro/US plates on all my cars with 3M automotive double-sided tape. Never had any problems

Here...........3M all the way. I also did a little "custom" job on the plate. Got the "skinny" look.

Which 3M double-stick do you use? There's regular (white foam) and heavy-duty (black foam). I'm guessing the heavy duty would be the way to go.

I don't like any of the no-drill mounts, and I've checked out about 4 or 5 different ones. I don't like the offset of the tow hook mount, and the others don't look all that secure to me. Plus, some leave the license plate exposed, with bolts sticking out the back that could damage the car if someone bumps it.

The double-stick tape is probably the best option for no-drill mounting, tho it just doesn't look that good. (Sorry.)

The factory bracket is really the best solution all around. Tho you have to drill 2 holes, chances are you'll never remove the bracket. And if you ever do (probably years from now, when you really won't care anyway) what does it cost to have 2 holes filled and painted? Probably less than some of the no-drill brackets.

Besides, it seems to provide a small amount of protection against parallel-parking bumps.

The stuff I use is the autobody kind; gray tape, with red wrapping.

i use magnets that i mounted behind my bumper and to my plate, works well and is very easy to take on and off

Just to give you some food for thought, my dealer recommends and does this with all BMWs they sell here in Germany. They use the heavy duty 3M tape with the red backing.

I use the 3M double sided tape. It is red. Has worked wonderful and going on four months with it.

Anyone have a 3M part number of what they used?

I looked at this one http://www.shop3m.com/60455032551.html in the local auto parts store bit it seemed to thin to grab the plate and mount to the bumper.

I bought a front plate bracket from Skene Design. You drill mounting holes holes where you can't see them if the bracket is removed. Pictures here.

That's how BMW held on my front plate when I did EU delivery. Held on fine at speeds that would get me thrown in jail here.

I'm running a tow hook mount from eBay. I bought two and combined my favorite parts from each to make something that worked to my liking. It's heavy duty and sticks out a bit more then I'd prefer, but it works well. I also keep some Heyco (BMW toolkit manufacturer) wrenches in my trunk for quick removal/installation. I keep the little tow hook cover in a small plastic baggy.
