The E82/E88 is expected to have a normal BMW product life cycle of 6-7 years. Hence, the new F15 X5 will come before the next 1-series / 2-series coupe. So, don't expect the next 1-series/2-series coupe until late 2013/early 2014 when the current generation coupe/convertible stops being made.

I wasn't talking about the 1 series, was referring to your comment about the X5 (E70), it's been out for 6 model years and will most likely have a 7th (2013) before it's replaced.

My only point was that the E8x has been around 2 years longer yet we've heard nothing. The new X5 replacement is already in testing.

No? If the current 1 coupe is going for at least another year, then why not sell more 1M? BMW did say they could increase production if demand is there. And, aren't pretty much all 1M's spoken for? How long will dealers take orders for current 1 series coupes and verts? Still, I'm ticked that there is nothing about a replacement even if it's 1 more year away. If It is at least another year away, then I may just order a 135i vert, at least it'll be different to my 135i coupe. I don't want to get the same car as I already have. |

I'm guessing it was a 2005 model. That chassis went to 2011 model year. That gives it 7 model years. The 1 coupe (E82) started production in 2007. Selling as a 2008 model around June/July 2007. That gives the coupe 5 model years. If 7 model years is the norm, then we'll have a 2013 and 2014 model year for the current coupe. If the current coupe is going for another 2 model years after 2012, then there needs to be some freshening for the 2013 model due around July 2012. Since I got my 2009 135i the prices have gone way up. So, if I choose to get another 1 coupe, I get nothing new other than paying a lot more for pretty much the same car. I'm only considering a 135i vert as I can't get the same car I have now. Or, I may go with an Audi A5 and in 3 years wait to see what BMW does with the new 2 series. The A5 has been freshened for this model year. |

"Soon" is a relative term. Remeber BMW AG also says the M3 e92/e93 sales will end "soon". But they will be built for the for awhile right now. One to two years. ? From the front page of Bimmerpost.com... http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=637125 "Are there any other special edition M3s coming before end of production for the E92/E93 M3 coupe and convertible? You shouldn’t be surprised if we have some more. The car is not at the end of the production. We have the car until 2013 [calendar year] as a coupe and convertible. So if we have time to do some more special editions, I would be thrilled. What is the timeline for the next M3 sedan and coupe? There won't be a next generation M3 introduced before the current M3 coupe and convertible end of production. [Note: read together with the answer directly above, that would mean that there will be no F80/F82 M3 (sedan/coupe) prior to mid-late 2013 at the earliest.]" Quote:

One thing to add... BMW has never made an LCI update to the e82/e88 coupe/vert. Sure the 2012's have different headlights and tail lights... BUT... BMW AG has never called this an LCI officially. The e87 (1er hatches) had their LCI in 2007. They came out in 2004. When the two door hatch came out in 2007, it came with the LCI update(s). That was the same year (2007) that the e82 coupe and e88 vert came out as well. BMW usually goes with a six to seven year model cycle life for any given platform. SO... we should start to see the F22 (2nd generation 135i or 235i) shortly after the F21 comes out. That will be at least a year off from now. I suspect it will be like two years away. These are just my "best guesses" though. Dackel |

Dackel, in detailing your recent email conversations with Leipzig a couple weeks back didnt you mention that they were intending to retool later this year for x1 and f21 production exclusively while e82 production was to be moved off shore to China?
Perhaps this explains the dearth of 2013 e82 info at this time? |

The 1er has enough problems coming out of Leipzig, I can only imagine what issues would be seen with Chinese made 1ers...

From my understanding is that the Chinese made 1er coupes would be only for local consumption. Or for Asia. I realy can not see BMW trying to sell "made in China" BMW's either! lol Much like they make special 3er Li and 5er Li (long wheelbase) models for only the Chinese market. |

The E82 tooling may then be shipped out the the BMW China factory in prep for E82's being made just for the Chinese domestic market, while Leipzig then prepares for the F22 in readiness for a 2013 release
