Exclamation FOUND! 18x9.5 +58 & 265/35/18 for the rears mounted, but with an asterisk attached!

I just added this to the wheel database in the sticky.

This will be a controversial wheel fitment. We are using an Enkei wheel designed for the front of a C6 Corvette on the REAR of the BERK 135i.

The wheel is an Enkei NT03, 18x9.5 +58 offset, 5x120.65 PCD, 72.6mm center bore.

The BMW uses a 5x120 PCD and a 72.6mm center bore. So the wheels are a perfect hubcentric wheel (go figure) but the PCD is ever so slightly larger than the BMW, so each bolt hole will be 0.13mm off center or 0.005in. Just remember to use them at your own risk!

We tested this setup with the fenders rolled by an amatuer (me) and we didn't have any rubbing issues during normal driving. We were taking this car to a Time Attack race event and I needed to be extra cautious since the car would see even greater suspension compression with banked corners, stickier road surfaces, and zero speed limits. So we had the rear fenders rolled with a proper tool before the weekend. (Side note: read about our weekend here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=246926)

I believe Enkei is going to discontinue this wheel so we plan on picking up a few extra sets just in case.

The front wheels we are using is a standard BMW fitment that Enkei already offers, a 18x8.5 +38 5x120. Also hub centric to BMW so no hub rings are needed. These could also be used on the rear of the 1er. It's very close to the non staggered D-Force Empower 18x8.5 +40 setup that we run our practice tires on. Ralph runs this non staggered setup on his 135i race car. He could upgrade those rears to this setup if he wishes.

The wider rear tire on a proper 9.5" width wheel REALLY helps with rear end grip. From a performance standpoint you DO NOT want to use a 265/35/18 on a narrow 8.5" width wheel. I have seen people doing this here. Running a wide tire on a narrow wheel is very detrimental to performance. Keep within the specs of the tire manufacturer wheel widths when mounting tires. So for a 8.5" wide wheel, a 255 would be the max.

The Cliff notes version of what I'm saying here:
The rear wheel setup is not a true BMW setup. We use it without any issues but USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Wheels: Enkei NT-03

Front: 18x 8.5 +38
Spacer: 5mm

Rear: 18x 9.5 +58 (Hub centric to BMW but with a 5x120.65 bolt pattern from a Corvette)
Spacer: none

Tires:
Front Toyo R1R 255/35/18
Rear Toyo R1R 265/35/18

Suspension/Fender Mods/Camber:
KW Variant 3 Coilovers w/ HP Autowerks Springs, Vorshlag Camber plates @ max neg camber.

Front fenders rolled slightly.
Rear fenders rolled with a proper tool as of 03/09. (No more baseball bat!)
Approx 2" strip of the liner has been cut out in the rear.

Notes:
Rear is VERY LOW. No rubbing on the race track or during regular street driving. I was able to get it to mouse squeak of a rub once while going down a very steep driveway but otherwise I would call this a "no rub" setup!

And the disclaimer: Use the rear wheels at your OWN RISK! I have talked to several wheel manufacturers and the bolt pattern size difference is small enough that no machining is needed, but it IS NOT A BMW 5x120! Make sure the wheels balanced properly and you are using STEEL lug nuts or lug bolts with the proper torque. I use 90ft/lbs in the rear and 85ft/lbs in the front.

Some guys at a wheel/tire shop I use told me that there were most likely some Corvette wheels that would fit the 1. Who woulda thunk it!

I had been thinking about the corvette rout but figured I'd have to bore out the center bore. and I was going to get those lug bolts with the floating taper.

good looking wheels for the 1er though.

We were looking at those lugs as well to make up for the slight PCD variance but we couldn't find them in steel, only alum. For a street car I would feel fine with aluminum lugs but since these wheels are on and off the car so much I am worried about a lug nut failure.

I've seen Camaro guys use BMW wheels before. I've been wondering if the spare tire I have for the Camaro will clear the 1's brakes.

Does this mean the D-force setup is a no go?

Wow Berk, thanks for the efforts and update on this new concept. I'm really frustrated with the lack of wheels for the 1 series. I still think I'll wait on the Empowers but this is interesting and will give me something else to research. The other wheel I really want are Yokohama Advan RS's! Hopefully you are bugging them as well as D-force to find us something!

Hmm, there are some of these for sale on Ebay. Pretty light also. Even funnier though, the Enkei website lists the 8.5 at 19.6 lbs and the 9.5 at 19 but it seems to be due to the offset and how that effect the wheel design.

But in your pics I thought the inner, second ring as just an illusion..lol. Weird wheel.

Now let me go search other Corvette wheels and aluminum taper lugs.

there's a guy in my club using 'vette wheels on his e46... i looked on tirerack a while ago for chevy wheels for the 1er, since they're typically wide with high offsets, but i didn't see these.

i still dont see this fitment on tirerack... does anyone know what chevy application this is listed for (if they have them)? i wish tirerack allowed you to just pick from all available versions of a given wheel, instead of having to keep switching cars

given the right amount of front camber, i smell a 285/30-18 & 255/35-18 setup!

any closer pics of the front? 38mm offset plus a 5mm spacer makes 33mm, which should be mega-aggressive... did you need the 5mm spacer for caliper clearance or to get the tire away from the strut? did you have a chance to try any thinner spacers?

This fitment in particular is for a Z06 front. Enkei has discontinued this wheel IIRC.

The set in the photos is available if anyone is interested. One week old wheels with 2 day old Toyo R1R's!

I don't recommend alum lugs for this app. I would only use steel lugs. Some race organizations won't even allow you to run alum lugs.

D-Force is still planning on a 1er specific rear wheel for us. I just don't have a firm commitment from them yet.

The outter ring you see is a stiffening ring. Wheel stiffness is an often ignored aspect to high performance wheels. Most people obess over wheel weight, which is important, but they completely ignore wheel stiffness. Huge forces are generated at the tire and the wheel and some wheels will flex under those loads, having the same effect of sloppy suspension bushings.

There is plenty of clearance on the rear 1er brake caliper. Even when we did our test fitment of the custom offset D-Force Empower we still had plenty of caliper clearance. We took a standard 19x9.5 +43 empower wheel and shaved the backpad down to a +57 offset. There was still lots of room for the caliper.

Good info. The Empowers are very light. For such a light wheel how do you rate their stiffness? How about Advan RS's from what you've heard? They sure don't look as sturdy as the Empowers. Most of us wanting light wheels probably will give up some stiffness, especially in my case since my BMW will probably never see the track.

I know this post is extremely old, but could you have ran a squared setup 18x9.5 et58 all around? I’m infatuated with these wheels . Thanks in advance…!!! Amazing 135i by the way.
