Anyone here also have the airbag safety recall performed?
I just checked on the BMW site and it says I have a safety recall done for airbag replacement. |

I’ll compare it to the E82IS, although a comparison to the E88 135 It replaced in the garage would be more appropriate as they are both drop tops. The Z4 is a compromise car - it looks like sex on wheels, and draws looks everywhere we go - Valencia Orange is not a subtle color (guessing IEDEI would concur), and it stands out like a sore thumb. Lots of attn from the local "man" as well.
The Z4is N54 is the same as the 1M, pulls like a train, and the DCT is always quick with a shift, especially in sport mode or sport plus. The car is very quick in a straight line, twisties are another story I’ll get to in a minute. The exhaust is snorty and does pops and burbles as well, but not to the extent of the E82. The body has little cowl shake or flex and it’s clear that this car was designed as a roadster from the start rather than the E88 which was a coupe with the roof removed and lots of bracing added. Where Z4 is really let down is the steering feel. EPS sucks, this case is no different, and while it's better than my short lived F30 M-Sport, it still cant hold a candle to the 135. Yes, the car goes where you tell it to, it just doesn't seem very happy doing it. On a skidpad, I'm sure it would out handle the 135is due to being lower and having wider tires. However, the numbers don't tell the entire story - the 135is just "feels" more fun. The suspension is hampered by the same problems as the stock E90 and E82 designs - soft bushings. In comfort and sport the adaptive suspension seems too soft and floaty for enthusiast driving, in sport plus it does firm up a bit. The other side of that coin is that it's a very comfortable cruiser, where the E82 and E88 were less settled and more harsh over the bumps. The runflats suck on both, but I still haven't changed them out, when they are worn, PSS for sure. My 135is will eventually have 1M suspension bits, camber plates and wider tires and will spend some weekends at places called "Barber", "Road Atlanta" and "VIR". The Z4 will spend many weekends at local eateries and cruising the boulevards of Birmingham with an occasional twisty road jaunt. Both cars have their purpose and do them individually well. At a $50K residual, I can tell you I won't be buying the Z4 after the lease – I’m leaning towards the M235 vert as you can order it in a manual – which had they offered on the Z for 2015, I would have bypassed the IS model to get the base Z435 |

My car's build date is Nov. 8, 2012. I have the airbag safety recall (as I mentioned above). I'll go ahead and check my brother's (2012) Z4 tomorrow.

Chunner, IEDEI - we never did that tri state cruise last year. We should try to coordinate before fall is over. Of course I'm assuming you'd allow a non-135is to join. Don't worry I'll bring the Z over the X3 lol. I'm itching to hit some twisty roads. My buddy who has a Z4M roadster is a great photographer so maybe he can join us. Two Z's and two 1'ers would make for a nice photo shoot. His last photo shoot:

Shouldn't we only drool at this point over Chunner's car? The only IS of the bunch? 3002 tii left us, and IEDEI's now too good for us. =P
Only joking, would make for some epic drives and shots of 3 different, but great BMW's, the likes of which we may not see again anytime soon...at least until they release the 2-series active tourer here. Let the kids drive. |

M235i Convertible
OK, from behind this car looked just like mine. I have to admit, the M235i convertible looks MUCH better than the M235i coupe. Is it just me, or does anyone else agree? I still have no desire for either one.
Also, just updated my latest CA Highway 1 road trip with a few new pics in separate thread. Last edited by Kouper; 09-17-2015 at 10:15 PM.. |

I still think the 2er looks fugly. Sorry... I just think it is. It is totally missing the bite and growl look that I see in our 1ers.

AGREE...not saying I want one of these at all. I was just surprised that I didn't find this as fugly as the coupe is. Neither one is on my list.

If the MT is gone, I will go looking for a lightly used 135is preferably in stick, but even DCT would be ok. It's surprising how much we miss that back seat and trunk space when out driving and decide to hit a store for a few items - the Z has essentially zero space with the top down. A used 987 Boxster S might work as well - it has 2 trunks |

Alas, had the yellow-to-red engine overheat lights come up last night during a quick trip to the grocery store. First problem after 31k miles (...and only a month after my 30k service).
Towed to the dealer and got a loaner today, will hopefully get it back on Monday but no word yet on what it is (another early water pump? maybe just a bad sensor?). Browsing through the forums it seems like WP issues are unfortunately pretty common with BMWs, eh?
