Damn damn damn
Was on my way back home last night after dropping my wife and daughter off at the airport (3 hour return drive) when a blasted wallaby dashes across the road. Jumped on the anchors but had no time to avoid a collision, collected it right in the middle of the car.......BUGGER
Will be needing a new bumper and engine under tray. Intercooler sustained some damage, but I think it will be OK. I knew I should have taken the Land Rover, the critter would have just gone under it without any damage. No more night driving with my 135 from now on.

Ouch! Do your sums, and if you'd be better claiming through insurance to even get the intercooler changed, do it.
I've got to say, I'm never seen more road kill than in Tassie.

Thanks for the sympathy guys and thanks for the advice re the IC, I'll definitely ask the repairer about replacing it. I wonder how long I will need to wait for parts as this is a new model.
I guess I am lucky to have not sustained any panel damage. Interesting thing is the bumpers ability to bounce back into shape as judging by the unseen damage, it would have been pushed back quite a bit on impact.

How's the wallaby (or macropod, as I learnt the other day)? Sorry, someone had to ask! Seriously though, sorry about the car, but it can be fixed, at least you're okay. I agree with AussieRacer, I couldn't get over the roadkill when I was there either.
Hey, at least it wasn't a wombat!

I'm amazed at the amount of road kill here as well (being a former Sydneysider). Even seen a dead deer on the side of the road!

Ouch!!! Bad luck, mate! Just as well it wasn't a BIG RED or similar.
I've been told that it's best to hit the bounder full on and NOT at the height of it's leap as it is not pleasant having a big startled roo coming through your windscreen and doing it's death kicks in the cabin!

Thats just bad luck..
Considering your speed the damage is still minimal and at least the Wallaby didnt bounce up and damage your bonnet and windscreen.. |

I'd throw in a "Sorry to hear as well". You might be able to take advantage of this. If you cna get your insurance to replace the intercooler.. you may be able to take the insurance $$ from the BMW stock intercooler and get an aftermarket one installed for more cooling/power.
I wouldn't let that go, at least right now, you're only looking at a deductable, to get a new intercooler, just in case it fails in the future due to getting smacked around by the wallaby. |

Very unfortunate.
Agree with the intercooler comments. If this is going to be claimed, then the extra cost won't be relevant. Assuming it's assessed as damaged, also.

Sorry to hear/see that mate. I would definitely push for a new intercooler as the dents may lead to cracks down the track, easier to replace when the front is pulled off. You'll get over it; last year somebody crashed into my new X5 before I had even gone thru the first tank of fuel.

Ouch! That's gotta hurt. I'm sure the car will be all fixed and back on the road in no time. Nice one leaving the fur in place for the special effect in your photos! But with that amount of damage ... I wanna see BLOOD!!!
