Audio Head Unit Power Cycling
Here's a cheap vid of what my head unit is doing. Everything is stock. Haven't shown this to the dealer yet (and intend to as soon as I can schedule a visit), but I know that BMWNA trolls the forum and they might like to see this too. ; -)
This on/off cycling happens for about 10 minutes, and then it acts normally; it doesn't happen all the time. |

Got past the dealer today - they say replace the head unit. So it goes in mid-August to have it's HU sucked out and a new one plopped in it's place. We'll see . . .

how often did this happen? My girlfriend said something similar happened to her car once. Also one time when we had just got in the car before putting the key in with the radio off the speakers just started playing static... It was sort of creepy actually. Neither of those events ever happened again though so I guess there's not much to do at this time.

Happens infrequently - less than 10 times in a year. If you have a regular radio station tuned, CD, or iPod it still occurs. Even if the audio is off the time/date display will go on/off also. So it's gotta be the head unit or a relay that's between the HU and +12v supply.
