Folding Side Mirrors Scratches

Anyone else have this issue where scratches develop where the side mirrors pivot for the fold up/down? I can't see how trapped dirt could cause this. It's almost as of the mirrors were installed too tightly from factory since the tolerance appears to be so tight

The flash makes it look worse but you clearly see white lines. The white reside on door is from me trying to polish and wax the scratches.

Same thing here...I'm sure dirt and/or other particles get trapped in there and gouge the surface when the mirrors operate. But no doubt its close....

Shouldn't this be covered under warranty? I can't imagine every BMW having this issue.

Yea assuming it's installer error, I don't even want them to replace the mirror biut just the base that attaches to the door.

You can have folding mirrors in North America? Damn, they never offered it here in Canada. Or maybe I have it and don't know, ordered the car with every available package, LOL!

I fold my mirrors once in a while. Last week I noticed the driver's side mirror makes a squeaking noise when operated... most certainly a noise resulting from plastic-on-plastic contact. I better take a look and see if I have any scratches...

I fold mine all the time, I had them coded so that they fold when you hold the fob lock button. I'll check to see if there are any scratch marks, however I do have a motor grinding on the passenger side.

Well it shouldn't be. Folding mirrors should not cause paint to scratch. There should be more clearance. That's like saying every time I open/close my door, the paint on my door jambs start wearing down. BMW design fail if you ask me.

My Canadian 2008 128i with comfort access has it. I thought I read somewhere that they discontinued it, possibly after they changed to the larger mirrors in the later model years?

In any case there is a round button on the driver's side door next to the toggle switch that allows you to choose which side mirror to adjust/move when using the arrow pad. Check to see if you have one and if your mirrors fold in if you push it.

Here's the thing, if everyone else has this issue I'll live with it. No point in replacing it if it's bound to scratch again. But if it was due to installer error from factory, I'd like to to obviously get this warrantied. My next service isn't due for a while but if I have a free day I may swing by and ask a SA to look into this.

Nope. I have the dumbo mirrors, so guess they don't offer it anymore. Wonder if the mirrors have it and all I need is the switch?

Do you have CA? That might be the common demominator...

Yes, I have CA, and the auto dimming mirrors. For the replacement cost of the mirror glass, would be nice for them to automatically fold in.

the scratches don't look like they can be installer error... I don't know. I don't hear any grinding or anything like that when my mirrors fold/unfold, but the grooves are super deep and don't seem to be a purposeful design idea or anything like that.
