New 330i delivered today

Hi all. I have been reading this forum faithfully for the last 2.5 months while waiting for my E90. Just got it today. Basically the most amazing thing I have ever owned. I cannot even sleep. Whoever says money can't buy you happiness needs to buy a BMW!!!!

The handling, ride, etc. are amazing. The iDrive is amazing. I am trying to understand why so many people complain about iDrive??!! What is the problem??? If you can use an iPod or if your IQ is greater than 80, you can use iDrive!!!

Anyway, the dude at the dealership told me he owns an E90 and never uses high octane fuel. That it is not necessary. I love my baby and will use the best fuel but I am curious if you folks agree with this guy? Am I wasting money to buy 91 octane instead of 87?

Thanks in advance. I am so happy to be an E90 owner!!!!! Driving an E90 is better than sex! ok maybe thats a little bit exaggerated. but its close

I don't think I'd do it, man. I think performance will be hurt at the minimum even if it does no damage to your car. The cost diff is marginal and if you bought it to enjoy driving it's worth it.

btw which dealer did u get it from? I'm also waiting for my alpine white 330i

Dealer adviced me to put only 98 RON especially during break-in period. Also read from this forum that it is the optimum you can use. Only the best for my baby.

Southbay BMW ROCKS!!!! Perfect experience, totally professional, no ripoff. I was connected to them through CarsDirect.com. I had nightmare experience with BMW of san diego, STAY AWAY!

...and yet another octane-related thread.

87 will work and will NOT damage anything in your car. the only thing you're loosing is about 15-16-some horsepower, that's it! so for maximum performance, pump her up, for casual driving, whatever.

my dealer told me the same thing, that he drives his bimmer using 87 octane as well. that's his decision. i choose to pump 91 octane (or 93 if 91 is not available), as BMW advises, not less, not more. that's what the car was designed for. if you go higher than that, it is a scientific fact that if the engine is not tuned for it, the car will simply NOT give you any extra performance.

Fortunately these engines can tune themselves for fuel of over 100 RON if the currect atmospheric pressure is present

100Ron is over 95 US standard (PON)

Well remember the dealership guy is probably getting a new program car every year anyway...if there is damage and destruction from 87 its probably not going to show up until the warranty is long gone.
