Winter tires for stock 128i 17"

Summer is not exactly here yet, so this may seem a bit out of place. But I'm gonna ask anyway. I got some used 18s for summer. So I'm gonna use the stock 17s for winter. The sizes are 17x7 and 17x7.5. Tire rack recommends 205/50s for all 4 wheels. Is that really the optimal setup? The rears are not gonna stretch, are they? Thx.

If you want the same staggered sizes you have - to mount on your OEM wheels, than search TireRack for tires and then filter out everthing but winter tires. Unfortunately, the choice is limited but I would think that in Ontario, the Conti would probably be your best bet.

205/50-R17 is the way to go for winters, on all four corners.

I bought that size Michelin X-Ice Xi2 from Tire Rack. Work great!

Avonord, am I correct that your question is whether the 7 1/2" rim is too wide for a 205/50R17 tire, not if that is a good size for winter tires?

According to Tire Rack, that size tire mounts on wheels having a rim width of 5 1/2" to 7 1/2". Since your rear rims are at the top of that range, I think I'd check with Tire Rack - perhaps you can send a PM to Gary.

Yea.. That's part of the question. But it seems a few ppl here have it set up that way and works great. So, I think I'll go with that route.

I am not a big fan of staggered setup for winters. I like to be able to rotate my wheels every year.

Thanks everybody!

I think I may eventually go with the Dunlop 3D. I'm not going with RFT. I bought myself one of those slime on-the-go tire repair / inflation kit.

Blizzak LM-25's work well for me. Been through 4 Winters and they can go one more.
But, the Winters in Philly are shorter than Ontario. My Blizzaks are on the car only 4 months.
