M driver's training

To all the people who bought the 1M, and others who might want to come along. Any thoughts of doing the training together? Always more fun to do it with people you know. I guess organising it will be hard.

I've booked in to the Intensive Course (325i and M3) at Phillip Island on Thurs 22nd Sept. It's not the most convenient time (weekday) but I have been booking up courses so ultimately i can learn to drive around a track. Presumably I can change to alternate sites or dates, because they do not seem heavily booked.

Did it before at PI when I bought my M3, 'twas a BLAST!

Will definitely do it there again, it is such an awesome track (not that I have been on any other tracks, aside from the ring of course hahaha).

Would be fun if we did a group booking????

Just checked the next available M dynamic course is in WA in November!! So next year I suppose? Which is also hard as wifey is due in January. Weekday is often hard for a lot of people though, but if we found 18, we might be able to slot in Phillip Island sometime earlier? Just not sure if the people who have a pass can use it.

I'd be keen, if I could get away from work. 'Hoping to make the BMW club's next track day on Sept 2 at Lakeside at the moment. Anyone up for that?

I'd like to find out more about this Tim as I'd be very keen. Is it limited to BMW club members?

Is this about the free training for M car buyers or are you organising a paid day for forum members? Or both?

What's involved Tim? I am new member at the Gold Coast club but I don't have a cams licence.

Wot? I thought they'd canned the idea of bringing any of the driver training courses back to WA because it was too expensive (plus Barbagallo was a bit sh*thouse). Note: they are now upgrading Barbagallo so who knows?

I don't think so Vinney. The guy who's running them has a 130i so I'm sure he'll let us all in

QR & Lakeside require a AASA licence. You can buy a day or annual licence on the day. Come along Gazz!

The free one, but other forums member may want to come, except of course they have to pay . Not sure if they are happy to do a group booking if a number of us is not paying.

I emailed our Motorsport director who came back with;

"As always non members are welcome as are non BMWs so please forward this to your friends". The only issue I can think of is that Vinney's car may be too noisy for Lakeside? Here are some more details;
********************************************
I am pleased to announce the first round of our new track day season. As was discussed in emails over the last few months we have redrafted the classes and points (see attached) in an effort to make the classes and points more even and fair. I am sure there are lots of potential faults with it, but in the spirit of compromise I think it keeps the focus on BMWs, and friendly competition without disadvantaging anyone. As always non members are welcome as are non BMWs so please forward this to your friends.

When you are doing your entry please self nominate both the class your car will be in, and your last known lap time so we can put you in the right "speed" group on the day (which is not always based on class).

For further details see: http://www.bmwclubqld.asn.au/Filesto...t-Lakeside.htm

Friday - Sept 2nd. 8.30 am to 4.30pm
Where: Lakeside Raceway, Lakeside Road, Kurwongbah.

Cost: $225 per person, ($195 for BMW Club Qld and BMW Club GC Members)
( AASA licence available on the day at extra cost).

Lunch: Included

Instruction. There will be experienced drivers on hand should you wish to get advice about track orientation, or simply get them to provide tips to get the most out of your car, yourself and the fantastic Lakeside circuit.

Format: We need a minimum of 25 people to make this day a success but can take a maximum of 35. At this stage, with the exception of approved instruction, there will be no passenger rides.

Indemnity Forms. Please download the indemnity form, and have it completed with you on the Friday morning. This will save time, and allow you to get on the track earlier.
BMW Club Indemnity Form
There will be a Queensland Raceways Indemnity form to be completed on the day

REQUIREMENTS

Current civilian drivers license and/or AASA competition license (to be presented during sign on), (Drivers who are not old enough to have a departmental drivers license, but hold a AASA license, and have relevant track experience can participate).

Vehicle noise level must be under 92dB at 5000 rpm from a distance of 8m behind the vehicle.
Vehicle which is mechanically safe and of a road worthy condition.
New or near new brake fluid, Min DOT 4.
Brake pads that are performance orientated.
Suitable seats and restraints.
Safety wear: Full length clothing, Helmet. (no open, high heel shoes)

I was never offered any free driver training when I picked up the 1M. Is that offer at dealer level or from BMW Australia?

Thanks for finding out that information Tim. You can count me in... I hope to have an LSD by then I'm a bit concerned about my car being too loud though. I have an app on my iphone that measures sound in decibel so I'll give that a try... I don't like my chances but I'm being hopeful for now..

It takes them a couple of months to send it out to ya. I hope it is included with the 1M!
