128i or 135i??
SO the one series is growing on me day by day
from purchasing the new09 A4, now i want the 1!!! but i just can;t decide to get the 128i or 135i. any suggestion guys? the 128i is way cheaper then the 135i and both prices of the cars are amazing for the specs of its kind. I just don;t know if i realli need the extra 100hp. And is there any other difference between the two that I don;t know about? btw i;m in toronto, car is meant for winter driving, so less power or more power would be better? Especially there is no xDrive on the 1. Thank You |

i woild say go with the 128i and the money you save from the difference you can spend on winter tires and rims plus anything extra you want to add to the car. since it will also be your winter car where are you going to use the power of the 135 ( if we had a winter like last winter ) = good luck but you will be up in heavens ....
btw no difference between the 128i and 135i but the rims and the turbo (if you get the M package and the rims i think that will be better than a stock 135 i ) just my 2 cents

IMO,135. Go for the extra HP and the meaner look. But it's what you like and can afford. I love my 135i, and would never go for a 128i..
ummmm now that there is a post above mine. just want to reply to it. I don't know how you can say there is no difference between the 135 and 128 but rims and turbo. The two cars don't even look the same. How about the whole M styled body kit? Looks totally different IMO. But like I said. To each is there own. |

I'm personally going to go with the 128i, but that's just because I can't afford a 135i w/o getting into serious debt (which I don't like doing); I'm not even 20 yet so I don't want to start in debt. However, if I a solid high-paying job or enough cash to put ~$30k down on a 1, I wouldn't think twice about the 135i. It's worth every cent extra you pay. MUCH more powerful engine, much better looking from the outside, much nicer rims w/ or w/o the sport package, and a bunch of nice additives (M-Sport shifter and much thicker and smaller steering wheel with perforated leather). I think it's fully worth the extra $7,000, especially if you're used to high-end cars.

I'm a strong proponent of the 135i. I would always recommend it over the 128i, but my criteria might differ from yours. The good news is... both cars are wonderful machines, and I promise you won't be disappointed in either.
It sounds like you're making a smart, well thought-out decision. So my advice is limited to this: Enjoy your new 128i. You will have a great time behind the wheel. No regrets.

I tested both the 128 & 135 a few times before deciding to go for the 128.
My heart said get the 135 but my head said get a 128. I figured the extra $8000 needed for the 135 would be better spent appreciating in a savings account rather than depreciating on my driveway. Anyway, almost 7000 km's later I realised that it IS everything I need for my daily drive. It's quick, handles nicely, looks fantastic, has reasonable comfort & gives reasonable economy. The 135 looks nicer, handles better (if you go for a 128 get the sport package unlike me!) & those extra 70 bhp are nothing compared to shove in the back the extra torque gives you. The only thing for me is that both seem to lack the extra driver involvement that I had in my previous daily driver but many, many others here will disagree with me on this last point. . |

I'm in Toronto as well, for what it's worth, and I picked the 128 over the 135 and I absolutely made the right decision. There are days when I pine for the 135, but in truth, it would simply get me into trouble, as the 128 means I have a built-in trouble prevention lag
Believe me, the 128 does not feel in any way weak on the road. As someone above mentioned, you're going to be really happy either way. I've put on 3k clicks so far, and I've loved every one. The car is fabulous. The handling just makes me giggle EVERY TIME I drive it. I paid cash and I don't regret it one bit, despite the depreciation. I feel truly privileged to drive this car. |

OP;
Go with the 128i. It has all the get up and go you'll need. IMHO - The ride of the 128i (with 17" wheels and non-sport) is also easier on the tailbone. Use the cash you save to buy some stock on the TSX. Quote:
If you want a more aggressive look than the 128i, you can buy several replacement front ends which give you that look for far less than the price diff of a 135i. Here's a 135tii front end look for the 128i: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=6218 OTOH, if you prefer the "M" look, then you can buy a "M" front end to your 128i: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=6218

The 128i engine is cut from the classic BMW straight-six cloth--wind it out to maximize your driving fun. The 135i is more about torque from 2500 to 5500rpm. JMO.

If youre asking well 128.... I would never ever consider a 128(for myself). It was 135 or s4 e46 m3 so a 128 would cut it. The 128 is still a good car but its aimed to a different crowd.

Yes, yes, yesssssss! Apt advice for anyone on the fence re. 128i/135i. Both cars can be immensely rewarding from 0-60. But (as we've mentioned before), the real magic of the 135i is its high-end torque. That's exactly why both cars should be test driven, and not only on surface roads, but also on the interstate, where the 135's push from 60-90 can be felt.
On the other hand, for a 128i buyer whose mind is already made up (especially if due to price), I'm almost afraid to suggest taking the 135i for a spin... because its twin turbos have a knack for separating folks from their common sense!

- I've seen it happen all too often! I always suggest taking the 128i out first, and it IS a quick car. If that is sufficient, we stop the test drives at that point haha. The 135i makes people lose their sense of financial judgement and they spend the extra $5,000.00+++ |

I've driven 128i and 135i and IMO they handle the same. 135i gives the extra torque from the turbochargers and a better comestic upgrades. Like many ppl said, spend your extra $8k on the stock market, where you gonna need 300 horses on the street anyway? unless you always go to the track. Plus 128i does 0-60mph in 6.1sec, I wouldnt consider my car is slow.

I would have loved to get the 135 but couldn't justify spending that much on a car (even though I could have). I do think the 135 is very reasonably priced for what you get though. Obviously, only you can make the decision.
I'm posting more for the objective differences between a 128 and 135 coupe with NO options: power, rims, tires, suspension, bumpers, xenons, ambient lighting, (one more super small thing I can't remember) Choosing the sports package for the 128 coupe deletes rims, tires and suspension from the above (and you will be up sports seats). Have fun! |
