My POS 135i
2011 with only 14000 miles leaves me stranded- really??
Come out from seeing a movie and car wont start- Dash lights going bezerk, tail lites and head lights flickering, windshield wiper blades moving. Car acting possesed. Making matters worse, roadside assistance sends flatbed with a crew that cant get car in nuetral or lift up to put trolley under wheels to get it on the flatbed. Fed up, I told them to just leave..... Car will now sit over night and I'll start all over again tomorrow. May just off load this POS for an FRS, jeez.....

dead battery on a 2 year old car with only 14000 miles? Not comforting if that's true. If thats the case, how will my luck be after warranty runs out?...
Not a happy camper for a $43,000 car's reliability and quality.

Something really simple could have drained the battery. All cars have the possibility to leave you stranded. I know it sucks now, but for all you know it could be the only issue you ever have with the car. Considering selling something because it leaves you stranded once without even knowing the cause yet seems a bit rash.

As well as if you haven't noticed, spending more money on a car generally goes the opposite way in the reliability category...ie) how reliable is a Lamborghini or Ferrari? It you want something that is reliable, almost 100% of the time there a plenty of cheap vehicles on the market, and they are usually cars that are made on a big island in the pacific.

If you wanted an "appliance" you shouldn't have bought a BMW. While I've never been stranded in 17 years of driving BMWs, I'm happy to trade rock solid appliance-like reliability for driving dynamics. (And it's one of the reasons our family car is a Japanese make). That said, I can understand your need to vent on here. |

Yes..BMW has a demon file in the ECU to get us pissed off now and again...I as well had my car shit on me my third drive after buying it at 9300 miles..I was beside myself but after getting it fixed and living with it for a bit it's been rock solid since...and that was 3 years ago...Every now and again i think about trading it in as i usually do every 2-3 years ....but with the 135i there has not been another car i have test driven that feels as good..REALLY.. especially what i can get for my car trading it in.....Right now a used good condition 135i with 25-45,000 miles for 20-25grand is one of the best buy's on the market .........but then again my DD is a Honda CRV with 175,000 miles on it and running strong.....Chill a little and see what happens....

Off topic of the OP but if you leave your key in the slot and press neutral then turn it off the car will stay in neutral. Granted its for only 10 mins.

Other Ferrari owners I know report their cars are trouble free, but they don't put a lot of miles on them.

You bought a 135. They are the epitomie of unreliable. Forgive the laughs but for those of us around in the beginning your issue seems almost cute.
That being said I did to Detroit and back a few weeks ago from new york and all was fine... Also did you leave a dome light on? |

I had six Scuderia cars and never had a problem with them, but again I never really put in many miles on them. But I am very happy with my 135i N54.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!!
Update: Finally got her towed to stealership. Sure enough, bad battery but here is the kicker- not covered under warranty because "car sat idle too long" I was only away for a 9 day trip and car started and drove fine for 2 days after returning. I OKed the $400+ job but will fight with BMWNA for a refund. Dealer claimed they can not approve a goodwill at their level. Talk about leaving a sour taste. I'll see how things go for now but I am leaning towards getting back into a honda or acura at this point; Possibly the FRS too but hesitate being the 1st model year of production....

I had a 2008 Boxster S that kept having dead batteries starting about a year after I bought it. It went back to the dealer each time and after 3 batteries they were finally able to determine that the radio was the problem - even though it was off there was still a current draw...no one at Porsche had ever seen such a problem. I was compensated quite well for my troubles but it left a bad taste in mouth so I sold it after owning it for a couple years. My point is though that electrical problems can sometime be hard to figure out but be persistant and have the dealer continue to look into it.

Had the same issue, 2011 135 6MT battery replaced under warranty. No questions asked. The 9 day sitting is a load of crap. No where does it state that if you don't drive the car a faulty battery will not be replaced under warranty. Find another dealer.

Your dealer should have covered that battery for you. I hope you get your money back.
I kind of wonder what's causing your battery to drain though. I leave my car parked for weeks at a time... and no problems to date. I always make sure to pull the USB drive(for MP3's). When I start it up for the first time... I always drive the car for at least 45 minutes on the highway. No problems for me using this method. I wonder IF your car isn't "going to sleep". The DME puts the car to sleep after ~10 minutes or so. Did you leave a USB drive plugged in? Do you have comfort access and do you leave any of your key fobs close to the car? That will make the car stay "awake". Just wondering.

The key fob as Dacks mentioned might be the issue...but then again when you let a car sit in 0-25 degree temps the battery starts to drain.. I can see it with my Battery Tender as the temps go lower and lower the charge lights change just sitting there....I have had my 135i now over 3 years and the first year with 9500 miles on it sitting in the garage most of the winter(stating it up periodically) the car would have issues with the battery draining so much from the cold that it did not turn over like a new car and at times almost felt like it might not turnover...i had enough of that BS so Battery Tender to the rescue...and for $45.00 it costs me for the charger it was well worth my peace of mind as well as saving me money not having to buy a battery....My dealer actually sells the charger at there dealership...and even when it's 0 out my car starts like a champ....I can not wait till the spring to start driving the 1 again....or if the raods get cleaned up and de-salted i still take it out in the winter when the weather permits and the salt is off hte roads...That salt finds it's way on your car...not good for anything but keeping the roads clear...sucks for our cars though...but we need it for safety. Lastly.....How dare you call your 1 a POS for a faulty battery,,,,,that kind of talk will get you in trouble with the 1...it;s listnening.....LOL and the 1 will get you back for bad mouthing her/him/it....when the time is right.
