I operated a circulating catalyst research reactor designed by Arco. It held approx. 1.5kg of catalyst that circulated via nitrogen purges and produced crude gasoline averaging 102 octane after distillation at a rate of about 1qt per hour.

I use Chevron/Texaco mostly because my dad has worked for various Chevron companies for decades. I keep using it because they have good additives.

So just randomly, I wanted to learn more about octane ratings etc. I went to Wikipedia and found this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

It explains things and if you scroll to the bottom, I found out that the fuel I'm using has a research octane number of 101.5! But this is all explained in the article.

I quote something that is also interesting:

"the octane rating shown in Canada and the United States is 4 to 5 points lower than the rating shown elsewhere in the world for the same fuel. This difference is known as the fuel's sensitivity, and is not typically published for those countries that use the Anti-Knock Index labelling system.

See the table in the following section for a comparison."

I thought the recommended gas for BMW is Shell.. Since Shell is Dutch and all... I only use Shell, Chevron, or BP. NOTHING ELSE.. only 93 too. Sometimes ill go to Sunoco at Miami Homestead Speedway and fill up with 101 or 103. I think 110 is too high. :P

From my octane experimentation, octane ratings(US) over 95 do not help performance with a stock N52.
