1M Brake Cooling Ducts
Following are some pix of the brake cooling ducts I added last winter to my 1M. Took quite a bit of dremel action, but a 3" hose just fits.
Not shown is the second hose that connects with a 3" aluminum coupler that I bought from Coleman Racing (http://www.colemanracing.com/Brake-H...Kit-P3531.aspx) that runs to the very nice carbon fiber backing plates I got from James Clay at Bimmerworld. This is great Neil! When I have some time, I think I'll try to do something similar. I'd imagine this adds a good deal of cooling at the track. What kind of pads are you running?

Nice work Neil! Not to get too off subject but what's your take on the 01's vs the 08's? My car is sitting in the garage waiting to go back to AMP this weekend and the 01's are insanely noisy when cold. Not kidding, when I come to a stop light it scares everyone and they look around for a freight train to plow through the intersection! I can't bare to drive it on the street with them but there's no point in changing them back to stock for just a week. I need to find a good compromise.

Neil,
Very nice work installing the cooling ducts. A few questions: Were you seeing brake fade from high brake temps? So far I haven't seen this but I've only been running single 25 min sessions at the track w/ PFC-01's (soon to be PFC-06's). How did you attach the hose to the front grill? Have any rubbing issues with the 3" hose? Are you disconnecting the duct section to the backing plate when not at the track? BTW, there is a 2-1/2" hose option available too from Cantrell that might work better if clearance is an issue. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ferrerid=98339 |

The brake ducts look good, MDORPHIN.
While probably not as effective as your setup, has anyone considered the F30 backing-plate retrofit? Details here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...ighlight=brake

This does bring up the possibility of using the F30 backing plates and brake ducts through the undertray as Neil showed and leaving a gap as the factory does. Not as effective for track usage but very streetable. |
