Wide-angle mirrors installed

The MY 2008 and 2009 mirrors have a sleek look but what bothered me from day one was their small size which made them a lot less useful than mirrors in my previous cars. I found a reasonably priced set on ebay with the wide-angle feature, blue tint and heating.

The installation was very easy:
- tilt mirrors down all the way so you can fit your fingers in the gap above them
- gently pry them out until the clips release
- disconnect the heating leads
- reinstall in reverse order

The results are very good. Overall, the mirrors cover a lot more of the road. Merging onto the highway is really improved.

I forgot to take the before pics for comparison but here are the new mirrors:

Sure, the seller is quarrymotusa. The price was $100 for both mirrors shipped and they were sent the same day I ordered them. I didn't see any difference in quality compared to the original OEM mirrors that I replaced. Very happy with them.

WOW! thats cheap! The euro ones over here are like 83 euros for the larger 2010 mirrors. I think the small mirrors glass is like 70-ish euros PER mirror! 70 euros = aprox $98. You got them for half price! They must be gypsy parts though. I can't see them being German glass. Or maybe they were OEM and not OE glass mirrors. ??? Anyway... you got a deal.

Hey Guys,

Do your new mirrors have an outter wide angle edge like these? The picture bellow was from my old Bora IV TDi. This is what all euro mirrors look like. The outer 1/3 edge is a wide angle. Helps with blind spots. The German spec BMW's come with a simular wide angle mirror.

Its just in the two pics above it is hard to see the wide angle edge/line on the mirror glass. ?

Here is my old Bora's mirrors on the 'Bahn.

I bought the Euro wide angled glass. They help compensate for the tiny stock mirrors and large blind spots I have in my convertible with the top up.

Note that for BMW parts there are two different kinds of wide angled glass. If you have the premium package then you need the glass that auto-dims (assuming you want to keep that feature). The cars without premium can get away with the regular glass. One vendor sells the original BMW non-dimming wide angled mirrors for $200 while the auto-dimming mirrors go for $650. Quite a difference.

Tried to find the referenced mirrors from the ebay seller mentioned about (quarrymotusa). No dice. Any other US sources, or am I resorting to sticking little round convex discs onto my mirrors? :-)

xbook's graphic is useful, but I am used to blind spot mirrors where I see the whole road and my car in relation to it....

You could ask Dan at United IF he could get them. Even though BMW has clamped down on euro parts sales in the states.. you never know until you ask him.

You could also try these euro BMW dealers that do mail order to teh states...

There are two BMW dealers in the states the offer big discounts on BMW new parts. United BMW and Tischer BMW. Both are site sponsers here. You can do a search to find them.

Here are their websites...

http://www.unitedbmwonline.com/

http://www.getbmwparts.com/

In order to find the correct part numbers for the mirrors(or any other parts!)... you might want to look at this website that has the entire BMW parts catalog on line. ETK (Electronic Teile Katalog)

www.realoem.com

I checked last year by me on the price of these wide angle mirrors. They were around 65 euros each for the non diming ones in blue (like the above post/photos). IF your car has the auto-diming outside mirrors (type) they are big bucks, I think a few hudred euros each(!) IF my memory serves me.

The good news is I am cheap, so I don't have the auto-dimming mirrors.

The bad news is I haven't taken delivery of the car, so (without the VIN) I'm not 100% confident what I am looking for, yet, using www.realoem.com.

From what you describe, I'm not just buying the mirror itself, but the whole casing for it? Surprised that can be had for 65 Euros, but I'm not complaining.
