Long story short............travel on M7 and got hit by something and now my windscreen has crack. The crack line is about 200mm. Anyone know where can I get the windscreen replace? Not sure if I claim insurance? Ouch............

Sorry to hear - really sucks. It's a fairly expensive exercise if you don't have glass cover. You should call your insurance company and confirm then take it to the dealer and let them sort it all out.

Checked and I did not buy the additional option to cover front windscreen. Anyway, got a quote from O'brien for $800 supply and install. There goes my $$$$$......

+1, O'Brien usually uses aftermarket ones unless you ask. I really don't like those guys.

Mine was about $1600 for an OEM job.

Please tick the windscreen option from now on, our glass is like delicate petals or something.

personally i would not get O'Brian to do it... try and get the OEM ones from BMW and have them to fit it..I can assure it wont feel the same if you get it from O'Brian..

I had a Lexus IS200 which got a OEM windscreen, replace by O'Brian with there glass and the first week, i had little stone chips and window seals were all lumpy and wavy!

now Im rolling in a 135i

just had a cracked screen quoted $1800 to replace, and $600 for non genuine, I have windscreen cover for insurance and they paid for the BMW glass. Insurance companies are always trying to get out of it as cheaply as possible, so in my mind it goes to show what insurance companies think of the non genuine glass.

annoying thing a month after the new glass I get another crack, sooo annoyed, now just got to find out if I get more than one glass replacement per year.

Same thing happened to me last week.
O'brian will not do genuine glass.
Glad that I have screen cover.
Anyway, rang BMW insurance, they gave me a claim number and authorised a genuine replacement at the dealer at no charge to me.

As i'm on windscreen no.4 (in less than 25000k ) I would go to anyone but BMW. As mentioned above, it is $1600 from the dealer. My first 2 were done by BMW as no one else then supplied the part. In Vic I have used the RACV. They get their glass from BMW (!) and charge only $900.

Might want to double check your insurance. You might have windscreen cover, but may be not no excess cover.

Garage List
another thing to add to the comment for windscreen replacement, make sure they know what they doing. Most of them, do not know how to place the rain sensor back on and when it rains your sensors are all funny. If you have insurance covered or not, I would still go with BMW. If something goes wrong they will most likely to fix it. O'brian etc did not cover the repair of the sensors even if they screwed it up in the beginning. (have it in writing)

I know this is an old thread. I got a chipped windscreen earlier in the year, and got it filled with resin from O'briens at Alexandria in Sydney. Now the crack is getting bigger and I think its time for a new one.

Can anyone tell me the about the pros and cons of using O'briens vs the BMW dealer. Are there any other good alternatives for a quality windscreen replacement job using genuine BMW glass?

*shrug*. I've had to replace my windscreen through Insurance twice and have used OBrien's both times and they've done a fantastic job.

The insurance company did say I could use anyone I wanted and just had to provide the receipt and they would pay it. OBriens was just easy for me as Shannon's called them, OBriens called me, the guy came out the next day while at work and it was fixed.

Scary stuff.

Just added window protection to my NRMA comprehensive policy for ~$65/12 months. Covers all glass, including sunroof etc.

The big mistake I made was not getting the excess free glass option on my policy!

Anyway it looks like O'Briens is the go. I will ask for a credit of the money I paid for the unsuccessful chip repair job from them. Getting the job done in my garage will allow plenty of time for the sealant to cure.

Just curious for those of you who have had their windscreens replaced under warranty, would it be possible to replace your screen with a climate comfort version if your oem item isn't?

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t...indscreen.html

I noticed an E90 recentley it looked like the whole windscreen was polarised is this a new option?
