New 1M

Hey guys,

I'm picking up my new 1M next month and can't wait... A few questions, which hopefully aren't asked too often:

1) I'm probably going with 235/40/18 square winter setup, Blizzack WS-60. I thought about the LM series, but I don't want to be "that guy" going side ways up an incline. Any one have any personal experiences?

2) I'm picking up black ZCP wheels from an M3 in the show room. My understanding is that these are the exact same wheels as the oem 1M, just in black. Anything I should know? Is it better to powder coat the 1M wheels through BMW instead of swapping with an M3? (I know the black wheels are played out, but I can't help myself)

3) Weather tech mats... It seems like only the front digital fits are available. What are people using for the rears?

4) Are people bothering with the extended (6/160km) warranty?

Sorry about all the questions. Anyone have any tips? Anything to watch out for?

The LM-60's are great winter tires very good on snow and ice, the WS-60 is a Q rated tire 160km/h or about 99mph, I think the LM is H rated for 210km/h or 130mph.....

I actually talked to my tire guy and I think I'm pulling the trigger on 245/40/18 LM-60's instead of the WS-60s... I hope they really are great snow tires! Does anyone bother keeping extra weight in the trunk during winter? Or is it not that big of a deal?

Just to clarify the wheel situation, I was going to trade my OEM's for M3 GTS/Competition wheels that are already black. This is for my summer setup. My winter setup I'm using a different set of wheels. I'm just wondering if the M3 black competition wheels are different in any way (aside from colour) from our wheels? I hear they are marketed as "forged" wheels, while I've never read that about the 1M wheels...

In snowy or icy areas, I'll always give up a few tenths of an mpg and carry a bag or two of ballast in the rear. Sand or kitty litter are best because if you actually do get stuck, you can break open the bag and throw the contents on the ground to assist in traction on ice or hard packed snow.

I usually try to buy items that I can use in the spring rather than just discard. Another item one can use is salt pellets for a water softener.

LM v WS

I had LM's on my 135i, and would have preferred a better SNOWsnow tire and given up some performance. For the 1M I got WS's. Too early to tell, but I expect they will be much better in slippery conditions and I'll just try to keep it under 100 mph

My winter plan = Flatstoppers and a trickle charger . Sorry, couldn't resist.

Seriously, can always get a pair of TractionAids too.

There is a group buy for the extended warranty:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=560879

It's mostly 1M owners (but open to all). Add your name to get in on it (no commitment to purchase). If you do, be sure to send your email address to him (details in this post: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=242)

Your wheels look nice! I got a good deal on the M3 black wheels, I just wanted to ensure I didn't get a great deal because my wheels were somehow better!

I've been using performance winters with my current car (W300's 225/40/18), and never had issues. But my current car is FWD.. I'm going to try out the LM-60s since I already put a deposit on them. I hope I don't regret them!

I've never gotten stuck in the snow before (I live up in Canada, lots of winter driving experience)... But I've never driven a light RWD car in the winter before.

Guys, quick question. Is there a difference between the internal floor space of the 1XX Convertible and the 1XX coupe / 1M? If I purchase Weather Tech digital fit mats for front and back, for a convertible, will they fit my 1M? The reason I ask is, there's no digital fits for the second row on the Coupe's...

I'm pretty sure that BMW Canada won't honor warranties purchased in the US ...
