Rear brake light cracked

Hey guys,

I was getting stuff out of my trunk and noticed there are cracks on the brake light just above the trunk emblem.

Is this a common problem? It's light cracks on both side and another one towards center.

My initial reaction was, did someone try to pry it loose to steal it? (I live in very affluent community and I watch where I park, no bragging just explaining my situation. so i doubt it) Then I thought maybe I drove over bumps too hard? (I don't ever literally speed over bumps, but possible, if its a common problem).
I took pictures but on my phone I don't know how to upload pictures so I'll upload them up later

Any input would be appreciated and
If anyone knows where would be the best place to get a oem part and a DIY to replace the light, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks guys, merry Christmas

It happens kind of often on these cars. If you still have warranty, they'll replace it for free and file down the portion of the car that's too tight (at least that's what my paperwork said).

So you had the same exact problem? Yeah, unfortunately I'm out of warranty. I'll have to fix it myself :/
I wonder what they meant by file down the portion of the car that's to tight on the paperwork.
I like my suspesion, if that's what they meant. I'll just be more careful when I go over bumps now

Anybody got a DIY?!

Mine cracked, and eventually shattered two years ago. BMW replaced it free under warranty. The new one seems to be hanging in there.

There was a service bulletin about the problem that was floating around on this forum about the time mine was repaired.

Hmm I wasn't aware that it was caused by bumps, but mine has some light cracking in it like yours, they haven't spread visibly in the past 6 months or so, but next time I take the car in i'll have the techs look at it. A very common issue on our cars, but the kind of annoyance I can live with. Better this go wrong than VANOS or a waterpump.
