I've seen other graphs and this one looks like complete power loss or something, no gradual slowdown. Perhaps it's just the way it's plotted.

I'm sure Clive would have mentioned if the power suddenly dropped off at just under 6.5k RPM! |

Any remap is detectable should BMW want to find it. We remap many new BMW's (x35d's, x35i's, 123d's etc) and none of our customers have had any issues with taking the car in to the dealer for servicing/updates. |

I can confirm that, somewhat obviously, the engine does not cut out at 6.5k or whatever the exact figure is... I think you're trying to see too much here.

Hiya,
I've been thinking about having a remap done but a a little concerned about the insurance implications. What is the general feeling about informing one's insurance company about this? Cheers Jack |

*My* view is either you want to commit fraud and leave yourself open to having your insurance invalidated, or you don't. My premium has increased a litte, but it's still good value for the performance I now have.

I had to inform my broker who said my current insurer would not cover the mod. Eventually they came up with another insurer who would. I now pay about £80.00 a year more which isn't bad at all.

Many insurers simply will not cover.
But some do and the general consensus is that your premium is likely to increase by the the same percentage as the power increase - not sure how they prove it without a rolling road! But, they are likely to use the vendor's figures.

My car history is fairly modified (450bhp RS4, 500bhp Audi TT, remapped 535d etc.) so I do work with a very sympathetic and helpful broker, but the short answer is that there are plenty of insurers who are fine with mods.

Fazerboy,
Check out gocompare.com, I ran a quick quote and got back 9 out of 20 insurers who would cover a modified car.

Probably. Who cares ;-) I didn't buy a 135i to worry about mpg (although it is a lot more economical than the car it replaces, which means I can now get to and from work twice on a tank, rather than 1 1/2 times, which I do like!).

I note that the RWHP stock from the graph on this thread is c. 250. Surprising given all the US rags seemed to get 275-300 rwhp out of the 335i on the dyno. It's obviously the same motor in the 135i as in the 335i, so what gives guys?

Basically, in the US they tend to use "glory" Dyno Jet dynos, which give higher readings than Dyno Dynamics etc., which are probably more commonly used over here. Although I'm sure you can still fiddle them to read whatever you want basically

The SSTT route will give you very noticeable improvement in power and torque across the whole rev range, but you just won't get quite the top-end pulling power of the Evolve re-map. That said, it's a lot easier to remove come service time. Also, I believe the graph intersect isn't at 5,252 rpm as the bhp & lb ft Y-axes are not on the same scale. If they were they would overlap at 5,252 rpm. Mad. |

Tomorrow is the big day when I get the ECU done at Evolve. The last time I had an ECU mod it was on a Vectra VXR and Regal Autosports managed to blow up the ECU. They gave me a courtesy car for 2 weeks while a replacement ECU was shipped from Opel in Germany.
I was a bit dissapointed to say the least as I expected to be driving the 300Bhp and 400Nm torque car on the way home, but had to settle for a rental 1.3 For Ka ;( As you can imagine, I am kind of anxious about this...

Esscolb,
Pretty impressive results for both Superchips and Evolve. Looks like the Evolve map has a fuller torque curve, but I'm still really impressed with the SSTT for the money. Mad. |
