Retrofitting Harmon Kardon / Logic 7

Hi,

I have a 135i with the standard BMW Professional radio and speakers.

I was lucky enough recently to pick up the entire stripped parts from a 1M racecar for a great price and when it arrived I was ecstatic to find out that it had had the Harmon Kardon/Logic 7/Top Hifi system and included the amp and all speakers (incl rear subs).

Unfortunately it did not include any wiring harness or the headunit so I was wondering if anyone knew whether there is cabling within the standard E82 to retrofit the Logic 7 amp and speakers and if so, will it require that I get a new headunit or will I just be able to use it with the new amp and speakers.

I know I can probably just plug the speakers in to the original wiring which should probably work but of course if I could make use of the amp that would yield much better results.

Thanks for your help!

Alex

I did a bit of researching and I found out that the audio harness which comes with the Logic 7/HK/Top Hifi amp and speakers is actually built into the electrical harness of the car meaning a retrofit would be nearly impossible without rewiring the entire car's electrical system.

Ended up installing the entire interior with the speakers myself over the weekend without the amp. Everything is plug and play and works fine without the amp it just doesn't sound as good as it could.

I'ts actually not that hard to sort this out. The wiring is basically the same as in the Alpine retrofit kit, so a quick look on the install manual will explain the basics of this.

I've ordered all the parts for this and I'm going to install it in my e81 with just basic stereo.

It's actually quite different from the Alpine kit as far as I know.

The Logic 7 amplifier uses an optical not an analogue out from the stereo system which means you need to have an optical out from your headunit which I'm not so sure a base unit has.

Also, if the headunit does have an optical out, it will definitely require some coding in order to make sure the correct signal is sent out.

Yes, the amplifier requires optical, but the wiring to the speakers is almost the same.

I'm going to mount the fiber loop as I'm retrofitting combox anyway.
