Transmission Warning Light on and Surge
2012 135i, DCT, PPK, 23k miles, out of warranty.
This morning I drove about 5 miles, parked for 40 minutes and when I started the car back up the transmission warning light came on in yellow. The car drives normally except when slowing to a stop there is a throttle surge sometimes. The surge issue has been there for a while. AC is used daily at least 9 months a year due to the hot and humid climate. Help!

The codes will tell you what the error is and go from there.

The car has been driving normally except for an occasional surge at low speed and the light comes on every time I start it.

Do you have the PPK or any other tune installed? On my 2011 the DCT shifting smoothness improved after installing the PPK.
That said, if the light is on there is a code stored so I'd pull the code and start there. |

The light did not go on Monday when I went to the dealer. They said no transmission codes were found, but the engine was running lean. They wanted to clean the fuel system for $189. I was not charged for the diagnostic. On the way home I stopped for gas and the light came back on. I put in a bottle of Techron injector cleaner. This morning the light did not come on. It appears the code clears when the light goes off.

Typically the code is stored until it it cleared. Honestly I highly recommend getting the Carly app and a OBDII dongle. It lets you read the codes and even code some things on the car if you like. Handy to have to read the codes yourself and then research what's going on.

What I am hoping is the lean running of the engine caused some odd activity as the car was coming to a stop and it threw the transmission into an error. So, if the injector cleaner works the problem should go away. After 50 miles I noticed behavior while coming to a stop was much smoother. That is a worthwhile improvement.

Gotcha. I had a boost leak which was causing me to run rich and had similar symptoms, sudden lurching and engine surging which was very annoying and unpredictable. I never got a transmission light but I only had the leak for a few days before getting it fixed.
Curious if it comes back though! |
