Wavetrac LSD questions

I was wondering if anyone from the group buy a few months ago had it installed and if so what are their impressions. I also was a little confused about the pricing options as you can purchase just the differential vs the "complete final drive unit" that includes a core charge. If anyone could explain the difference that would be great.

For some owners, all they need to buy are the parts to "bolt" in to their unit. For others, a complete core must be replaced since their original unit has a welded ring-gear.

if you have a manual you have a welded ring. you should buy a complete set with a core return

The complete unit is $1995 each plus installation labor at your local shop. Of course there is the addition of freight to where you are.

Yes, it was done in August of 2010. Quaife has the only application for the DCT other than some custom one off LSD's.

It's cheaper for BMW to weld than bolt the ring gear to the differencial.

Quaife LSD DCT final drive

We have sold enough Quaife complete final drive for DCT 135's that there should be some used units coming off of cars. Try a search for a used unit if a new one is too much for you.

Quaife is very robust and can last 15+ years with proper gear oil changes.
