Only works on cars equipped with the factory alarm. Or, if you do have the alarm, there should be something in the menu as I saw it the other day but is grayed out/unclickable if you don't have the alarm.

It's in the iDrive somewhere. In the same settings menu as the 3-flash turn signal thing, IIRC.

You're POSITIVE you have the alarm?? I thought so too but keyless entry and lights flashing do not mean this is the case. I read something way back about the red knob on the mirror having something to do with having/not having the alarm. The knob is stationary if you don't and turns if you do to toggle something...also, the knob does not blink if you don't have factory alarm and the car is locked.

Oh yes, it toggles the dim control on the mirror manually.

Red knob from the center mirror is commonly called the "clown nose". Yea... IF you have an alarm it will blink when the car is locked(and the car goes to sleep).

Yea... in Germany car alarms are not allowed to "beep" or "chirp". We are also not allowed to have remote starters - even aftermarket ones. I guess we should be lucky we have cup holders. lol

In iDrive, you can set lock/unlock confirmation preferences. Flash and chirp are selectable independently.

I do agree with you though for when it's not obscenely cold.

Don't you have those two numbers backwards? Wouldn't it be -25 with a windchill of -40??? I think that's how it usually goes unless it's a German backwards thing...

Isn't it damn near impossible to even find a remote starter for a newer BMW due to the whole brake depressed when starting thing? I wasn't even aware they came on any from the factory...idk, I don't really keep up with the higher end models very much.

I live in Canada. I know cold.

I still think they should be illegal here.

Germany is great but way too many rules.

- Not allowed to wash car in driveway
- Not allowed to change your own oil
- And the list goes on..

You CAN wash your car on your private property. But NOT when your car is parked on a public street. Most everyone in Germany goes to a automatic car wash or a self service washstrasse(DIY with high pressure wands), though.

You CAN change your own oil. I do it. Its just a royal pain in the ass for most Germans bc you can only recycle the old oil in the ORIGINAL (little) one liter oil bottles or a 5L jug. You can't just put it in a generic jug. And local town recycling centers won't take old oil. You have to take the old oil to the place you bought it from. PITA.

I remembered the first time my German neighbors saw me changing my own oil on my car. They asked me IF I was too poor not to afford to pay someone to do it! lol It was like I was doing something NOT allowed. Raised eyebrows. lol

Yea... I know what you were saying... Germany does have WAY too many laws. And it seems like we have way too many signs too. And IF there is a sign... Germans take that to mean its the LAW.

A really good book on these weird customs and laws that Germans have is a book called: The German Way, by Hyde Flippo.

Like how all Germans shall clean the outside of their homes/sidewalks only on Wednesdays and Saturdays! lol Lots of weird stuff like that.

I have the factory alarm and mine did not beep on locking nor was there an option for this in the OBC or mentioned in the user manual.

I eventually enabled this with the BMWhat app for Android and an DCAN/INPA cable, but it can be coded with a laptop and the same cable as well.
