Are you kidding?

In my new-to-me '08 135i, do I REALLY need to adjust the driver's side and passsenger side temperature settings separately?? Does BMW assume there are always two people on board who cannot agree to a common temp setting?

On 08's and 09's, the REST function occupies what is now the button for the ALL function for 2010's and on. So yes OP, you have to adjust both.

Also, it would be the passenger side in the US of A.

Thanks for confirming. Just seems an odd oversight. On most cars, a common setting is the default. Oh well, if this is the worst gripe about the car, I'll be quite happy...

Its an innocent question..

but wait till he finds out about the:

Double pull door handles,
the hood that gets sprayed from the headlamp washers when only really wanting to wash windshield
the poor key-fob reception
the radio display that he cant see with his polorized sunglasses
the oddities about the usb/ aux/ iphone connections
the warping in of the "HD" radio signal...

enjoy your new car !!!! ( honestly, they are little things and you get used to them)

See the post above this one to find out about counterintuitive. This one will be the least of your questions.

That being said, it's all just little quirks in the relationships with our 1's.

Do 2010+ models not have any REST function at all? I would gladly take REST over ALL and just put up with fiddling with the knobs on both sides.

Think I remember reading that they did away with REST in 2010.

Yea, but the function can be changed through coding. I don't know if the reverse is true and you can have the REST changed to ALL, but I would assume its possible.

The headlight washers bugged the hell out of me, until the first time I overtook a GT3 at DE this weekend. Then, suddenly, there was nothing in the world wrong with the car. :-)

Of course, I have a 2011, with the oft coveted "All" button.

That would be useful, it's not cold enough around here to get good use of REST.

If it makes you feel better, in all my excitement of finally being able to purchase my first brand new car with 4 total miles on it, I failed to notice that I was purchasing the severely neutered sound system version that consisted of missing tweeters and fabricated sound fields. To make matters worse they (read: BMW) realized their f-up and reverted back to the better system 2 months after I walked off the lot.

The really funny and silly thing about all of these dual zone temp systems is that they try to give you the impression that somehow that side of the car will be at 80F when set to that, and your side will be 72F when set to that, as if there is some amazing technology that prevents the cabin air from mixing from one side to the other.

The only thing that happens when one side is set to like 70F and the other is set to 80F is that the "warmer" side vent will have slightly warmer air coming from it.

Auto HVAC just sucks, period.
Give me 1 temp control that actually gives me the temp I want instead of the computer deciding that it's warm enough so I'll blow cool air now.
