Coolant Leak from cracked Reservoir Seal (I think)
Since coming back from a road trip to the LA area for 4th of July I've been experiencing ongoing low coolant warning issues and finally saw a major splatter in my engine bay when refilling this afternoon, finally tracked it down to what I believe is a crack in the seal between the top and bottom parts of the coolant reservoir. I'm literally 5 weeks past warranty expiration and this started occurring right after that time.
So questions: Is the reservoir glued together or is their a gasket of some kind in between them and the central plastic screw holds the thing together? As in could there be a problem with the gasket and I may not need a replacement part? If I order a replacement reservoir tank are there any gotchas I should be aware of from someone who has replaced this part or can I just disconnect and drain it and replace it without any major concerns? Thank you for any wisdom that can be provided. Car info, 2012 135i with n55, 29,500 miles, was a bmw lease return and I bought it from a non-bmw dealer in October of 2014. Got PPK done in January of 2015. Vanos, oil, and SIB updates in November 2014. No issues other than pre SIB update and after installing JB4 which has been removed since Feb 2015. |

Ask you dealer IF they will cover it under good will ? Otherwise just suck it up and buy a new reservoir and cap(& bmw coolant). Its not rocket science to replace it.
