Detailing tomorrow - When to fix chips in the process?
Going to do some work on my BSM 135i tomorrow and have a question on the order in which I should proceed. I need to touch up some chips - using one of Dr. ColorChips’s kits. Order will look like the below:
Primary Wash - Detergent (strip away existing product) Clay Secondar Wash Menzerna polishes: PO203S for a medium level of cut and then Final Finish 85RD Duragloss 601 Polish Bonding Agent Duragloss 105 Total Performance Polish At what point should I touch up the chips in the paint work with the chip kit? After the clay? Or do it before and then clay to get rid of any touchup residue etc? Any tips would be appreciated

AFTER the clay. Like you said, you want to wash your car to strip away existing product and dirt, dust, bird drops, etc. But washing doesn't usually get rid of contaminants so you have to clay wax your car to remove surface contaminants. Then your car is free of dust, dirt, contaminants, etc and ready for touch up paint.
After that, I'd recommend just waxing. I don't see the need to wash the car again. 1. Wash 2. Clay 3. Touch up paint 4. Wash (unnecessary but I guess you can always wash your car lol) 5. Polish (optional) 6. Wax (recommended but it's optional) hope this helps. |
