Another subframe that hit a serpentine belt
I have an 09 135i. I had my front subframe replace by my insurance at the dealer, from the previous owner hitting something and shredding part of it. So two weeks later a squeal is coming from my engine when it is above 1000 rpm. I take it back to the dealer and they say the subframe hit the belt and took a chunk out. The dealer wanted me to pay for the belt job because I guess belts aren't covered by CPO warranty even though they just replaced my subframe. After I start getting very smart with the SA he talks to his SM and finally agreed to take care of it. This is my first bmw and I love it but the dealership is the worst I have ever had to deal with.

I disagree. If the belt was damaged from the accident it should have been replaced as part of the initial repair. All they were doing was completing a repair that was poorly done and shouldn't have even questioned it since it was their mistake for overlooking the damage.

I understand that but they had just replaced my subframe, and less then two weeks later I need a belt. If it was a year later I wouldn't hold the responsible but it happened because of them.

You make it sound like they caused your belt to fail. Not so. They did their best to right the situation despite the fact that they weren't responsible for the damage. Count your blessings and move on. They treated you well. |

Give the repair bill to your insurance company or agent. They will reopen the claim/case and deal with the dealer for you.

It should have been replaced as part of the collision repair and they missed it. When you have that type of repair done you get an estimate for returning the car to the condition it was in before the accident....no? If they miss something it's on their dime....not yours....to fix it. Is my logic wrong? What seems odd to me is why would the OP put it on his insurance if the damage was done by the previous owner?
