Exclamation Good news re iPod Interface

To answer a question many have posed, good news: BMW has advised that any progman upgrading will be done under warranty. Cars from 3.2006 forward should be current. A bulletin will go out to dealers next month on this.

Also, don't expect to see these toys at dealers until late July.

This means that we all get the new, new interface?

Do you have a link to the specs? I have been ignoring the new, new interface info because I assumed I'd never have it.

If you mean the iPod interface as the "new new" interface, then yes, you can buy it in late July.

Cars 3.2006 forward... is that a BUILD DATE of 3.2006 or a BUY date? My car was built in 1/2006 but I bought in 5/2006.

Just so I get this straight... I have an 8/2005 production, I will need to get a software upgrade as well as the ipod interface. Right?

Hello, I'm new to the forum,
Do you know if the Ipod interface will be available to order it online vice going in to the dealer?... My question is because I'm stationed overseas and I'm going to get my 325 in mid july and I think it will be a great addition!

Even if you can order it online, you would still have to go to a dealer, and if you got it from the U.S. in late July or August, you couldn't get it installed in Spain because Spanish dealers wouldn't have the ability to install it.

That's great news Jonathan! Thanks again for proving why you're my hero.

Any word on the MSRP of the unit yet? Another question I'll be interested in asking my dealer is whether the unit can be uninstalled and installed in a different car at a reasonable labor charge. If I trade my car in a year or two I'd want to take it with me (since they never give you any value for that sort of thing on trades).

I cannot disclose this since it is not final, but it is very reasonable. Regarding uninstalling, this may (and this is my guess alone, nothing official) become a factory option so it might be cheaper to order a new Interface for the next car.

Well, my iPod "Interfaces" through the Aux input, but I guess there was a system before that in the e46, so this must be the "new, new, new" one.

Here's your link that answered my query:http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17296

It would be most convenient to have the I-pod interface marketed as a factory OEM option, especially for those of us that do ED. Much easier to bring your I-pod along for the ride, loaded with Wagner and Rammstein, in lieu of a pile of CDs.

Great News even though I am very hesitate to do any SW update to the car as it is currently has no issues.

Offered as a Factory option would be a wise move.

I just ordered one (from the dealer, not the factory) for my 325i that is due in the states mid to late July. He quoted me $444 installed, which seems high since it's more than the cost of an iPod itself, but on the other hand, I have to have one , so I don't mind paying. Looks like I timed it well, and if I have some room to haggle down on the price, I will, but I'm not going to bitch about it. I've got an odler model 60 Gig I'm going to just leave in the glove box, so always having 11,000 songs at iDrive control is worth it.

I think maybe BMWNA didn't seen the IPOD as an issue and seemed happy with just providing an aux input. I guess they were wrong with a simple solution knowing most are perfectionist and want more. Would be nice to have it as a feature. Everybody would win and get what they want. Maybe next year!
