Remaining brake mileage error? Help

Whoever the previous owner of my car was pretty hard on the brakes. Maybe it was the NY traffic. Not sure. I bought the car at around 33k miles. I'm now nearing 45k and for the last 4-5k miles the remaining pad life left shown on the dash has been stuck at 1200 miles. What gives? Why would it be stuck at a certain mileage for so long?

My warranty runs out in 6 months but with how much I drive, I think I'll hit the mileage limit first. The obvious reason why I'm trying to get to the bottom of this is because I was counting on getting new rotors and pads before the warranty runs out.

On visual inspection, without taking the wheels off, I'd say there's about 5mm of pad left with the same amount on the rear. I'm waiting to take my car in for the battery terminal recall so that I can get the brakes done at the same time.

Any kind of input would be awesome.
