I just got off a phone call with Shannon so I can get a quote to renew my insurance.

I gave them my name and birthday and they straight away say they can't help me cause I am not a car enthusiast without asking anything else??? Wtf?????

They wouldn't insure my mate for the same reason because he isn't in any clubs.

I had to dish out my cams affiliated clubs I was in, kart licence and car forums I visited and then they signed me up.

Maybe you haven't reached your quota for mods to be a enthusiast....

I was just annoyed that they didn't even ask me anything - how can they make such a conclusion!

If you need that much (kart license and cams affiliated clubs) to get insured with them then I have no hope...

I will see what the others are giving me first - still a bit annoyed at them!

Don't exactly want to come crawling back to them after the way they treat me the first time!

ps. I am 25 so technically I should be ok.

with privacy related constraints, I'm most interested to know how Shannon know anything or enough about you in the first instance?!

I got a quote with Shannon's last year. Turned out to be damn expensive for an under 25.

That is a good point... They may have gotten some details about me a couple of years ago when I tried getting a quote before. If they are though they are relying on some old data...

Otherwise I am worried how they obtain updated information about me...

Yeah I got a quote from Just Car already just seeing what my other options are.

Lol Allianz does not insure M vehicles???

Hmm maybe I should wait till the end of the month when I turned 26.

I thought they didn't insure under 25? or have that policy changed.

Not sure mate, i'm 26 in April, but unsure of when I went for a quote with them last year.

Maybe they wanted to insure me because I told them I was considering thinking about perhaps purchasing the BMW PE.

I did and the said something along the lines "That is a good question and it depends on many variables" then the guy went on to say "Why don't you try Just Car Insurance instead, do you want their number?"...

Should have just said:

"Do you have 28 minutes while I read you the modification list or would you just rather save us both the time and give me a quote."

If not, ask him if he prefers JB, Procede or Cobb.

Shannons wouldnt insure me either rey, and ive insured 3 cars with them in my name in the past, and the reason was because it was the risk factor being age and a bmw 135i...

RAC were by far the cheapest all round though for my 135i...

But if you can get insurance with shannons, they wont care about mods if you list them, my old V5 type R STi 2 door had a complete driveline swap, built 2.5l brembos, 6speed box etc etc they didnt even care i told them everything had been swapped over....

These are Shannons' requirements to even provide a quote online... Couple of things here that might be deal-breakers even over the phone?

Quote:
You are the registered owner of the car.
Your car has no pre-existing or unrepaired damage and is in a good state of repair (except for Laid Up cover only).
Your car is for private use.
Your car is valued at $50,000 or less.
Your car is not for business use.
Your car is not your main form of transport and you don't use it on a daily basis.
Your car has been insured in the last 30 days.
All drivers are aged 25 years or over.
None of the drivers have lost or had their licence suspended in the last 5 years.
None of the drivers have had a vehicle stolen or written off in the last 5 years.
None of the drivers have had any insurance cancelled or refused.
None of the drivers have had more than 2 motor accidents (including fire & theft) in the last 5 years.
None of the drivers have had more than 4 traffic infringements &/or offences (excluding parking fines) in the last 5 years.
None of the drivers have had criminal convictions in the last 5 years.
You are currently not bankrupt or in receivership.

Interesting sounds like they are very accomodating!

look at this from another angle guys. I would pay any insurance premium just to be under 25 again!! so enjoy the high premiums while you can

and then you get married, get a mortgage or two, pay private school fees, await retirement and then you die.
