Terracotta or Oyster?

I like the two tone interior options. I've seen the coral in person and it looks stunning, but its a little too bold for my daily. That leaves the Terracotta (w/ wood trim) or Oyster (w/aluminum) choice.

I was looking at some images of an x3 with the Oyster and it looked as if it had a yellow tint to it. The images at BMWUSA.com make it look more white/silver. Does it have a yellow tint or was the white balance off on the photos I saw?

I know it will come to personal preference. I wish the dealers had more examples on the lot to see in person...

Thought?

I have the Beige and am happy with it... but I like the Terracotta also. The elephant in the room is the exterior color. For me, that defines the interior trim color. While some like it, the 'Superman' combo (blue ext, red interior) is not for me, but I'd love the coral red on AW or black.

If you wear jeans a lot, perhaps a lighter color is not the best choice - I fight the blue dye rubbing off from my pants weekly on my beige seats.

My local dealer has a wide assortment of different upholstery colors on their cars - unfortunately, every car they have is white, black or some form of grey so seeing the contrast exterior/interior is not possible.

I personally love the Oyster, especially with the contrasting stitching that comes in the X3. Dork dog brings up two good points though: 1) The exterior color combo 2) wear and tear on the light material.

Terracotta, hands down.

I had the natural brown in my e46 and miss it every day, which was the older equivalent.
Alpine White or Jet black + Teracotta = wow.

For the exterior I'd probably pair the Titanium Silver with the Terracotta, and the Space Gray with the Oyster. I don't think there is enough contrast between the Silver and Oyster.

My wife's car has a light leather interior and I've never noticed and discoloration from jeans on her seat. Does this really happen or just speculation? I've only have black seats in my cars (and usually cloth)...

Oyster can range between whiteish to beigeish depending on the lighting.

Great pics scoobysnax. Anyone got similar pics of terracotta? I've not seen it many times.

There are many threads showcasing the terra cotta interior. Go with it, you will not be disappointed. It looks amazing and stands up excellently to wear and tear.

The Lemas Blue is a little too outgoing for me. I live in a very rural area and I already get looks when I pull into the local bar parking lot filled with rusty pickups and Harley's in my VW.

What is your thinking on the exterior color? I'd start there, then match the interior. In a vacuum, I'd vote for Terracotta. It looks richer than Oyster IMHO and will be a lot easier to take care of. My car is AW and I considered the Terracotta, but in the end went with Boston Black for a classic look that I thought would work really well with the Shadowline exterior trim. If you go Terracotta you might consider the Grey Poplar which I think now is Anthracite.

Erm, I dunno, but terracotta is a bit too brown for my liking.

i don't think the oyster has that much yellow tint to it. i agree with the others--pick the exterior color first.

here's a pic of mine with the anthracite wood trim...

I do like the terra-cotta. Might have to consider that for the next one.

Choices

We all have our favorites. And then when we see them in person we may change our minds. As for me I am very pleased with my selection of Titan Silver, Walnut and Oyster. Pictures are difficult with the lighting etc but here are a few of my ride.

I am getting my 128i in two weeks and I have a question regarding the types of seats in the pictures posted above.

Are all three the sport seats? Or is the water blue the only one that isn't?

I am a little confused about your question. Seats above - there are a few contributors. Water Blue? The only data I have for my ride, the pictures just before your question, has Seat Adjustment, Electric w/memory, lumbar support driver and passenger seats.

The side bolsters (where your thighs are) look different compared to the terracotta leather seats. They seem to be lower than the terracotta

It sounds like we may have the same seats from what my dealer told me.

The person who posted the terra-cotta pictures will have to respond but I believe his seats have an added feature where the front portion moves in or out or maybe up and down for the back of the knee. I do not know whether or not the side portion has some sort of control. His seats do appear to have a more sporty design for support.
