SMG still available or what?

I just spoke to a BMW dealer at Michigan and he stated that SMG will not be available in september anymore, does anybody know of this? I remember reading that SMG and comfort access will be available in sept 2005.

Dealers don't know their heads from their ass sometimes Seriously I trust info I find on this forum more often than I trust what I hear from dealers. Not all of them are clueless, but lots of them are. Did he say when it would be available then? Yea SMG and comfort access were supposed to be avialble in Sept.

he said SMG will be made available 3-4 years down the road as "BMW feels there's no need to offer the SMG at this moment" I hope SMG is available because I want to have that instead of the automatic

I totally agree, when i placed my order for my e90, the guy kept showing me the options sheet for the 5-series. Then at the end, he gave me a 5-series poster and said "here, you're gonna want to show your family what car you bought."

I wish i could tell you that i was kidding.

don't believe your dealer. I am guessing that he probably doesn't want you to wait to order and is feeding you this BS. The SMG Steering Wheel has already started to turn up on e90 steering wheel prototypes of e90s we've seen, so i'll bet its still on for Sept prod.

SMG

The e90 is the first 3 series to have the SMG option right? How is the shifting with SMG (on other BMWs)? When I asked my sales rep about getting SMG, he said that there is a bit of delay in shifting with SMG. Is this true?

i actually just drove one the other day (in a '04 E46 M3) and i must say, it is a bit odd... i just couldn't get the hang of it (because i'm used to regular manual transmission.) however, there is absolutely no delay... in fact, it's almost like cheating in that it shifts quicker than most professional racers can shift.

e90newbie, the M3's SMG is different from teh ones that the regular 3 series uses. The other SMG does not shift as fast and I found it a bit too jerky for my taste but since I have no choice (entire family cannot drive manual), i am stuck with SMG....hopefully the SMG is still on!

seems like the SMG is really going to be unavailable because my dealer also said that BMW might not offer it. They have no mentioned about it. The dealerships know that comfort access will be available by sept but not the SMG. Hopefully it's not true

The e46 330i could also get SMG here

Find a dealer with a SMG Z4 or 5 Series to test drive

Dont test drive a M3 as their SMG system is muh faster, and the change speed can be adjusted on them by the driver.

The April 2005 issue of Road & Track magazine says that SMG will be available in September of this year for the new 3-series.

I guess magazines like this occasionally make mistakes but they're usually pretty good. R&T would have been given this information by BMW corporate, so it was at least the official word at the time they prepared this article. Generally, I trust this magazine more than a dealer salesperson who has a vested interest in selling you a car today rather than having you wait a few months. I also can't imagine that BMW will hold off 3 or 4 years for the SMG after publicizing that they would make it available.

Also, SMG is listed on the E90 wholesale price list with a specific option code and the sheet says SMG will not be available until Sept 2005. See the ED sticky and read the first item posted by Jwocky. Go the PDF link for wholesale prices. I think SMG is option #206 on this sheet.

Not that it means much coming from a dealer but my rep has been pretty solid with info. She even gave me some info prior to car launch that indicated SMG availability in Sept. That was a few months ago. Just this week she got word from Germany that this is correct.
