Yeah this car is the one I'm not modding....JB4 and DCI going on this weekend. Doing spark plugs before the JB4 for peace of mind.
By the way guys, unless you have someone you are already loyal to, I know the best service adviser around. Kevin Waters at BMW Sudbury. He's a car guy big time and won't try to fuck you over. Tell him Matt (or darkrom lol) sent you. He's not one of those guys who will say "you have an axle back, that is why your HPFP failed" or anything stupid. So yeah he will take care of you. Just give him a good survey or feedback when he does, so we can return the favor. He does all my work on every car I've owned, hes a safe bet for a service adviser. |

spark plugs are 100% a good idea! My car kept misfiring, aftermarket warranty would only pay for 1 plug and 1 coilpack on the misfiring cylinder. they did two, i just bought the other 4 plugs and did them myself. the ones that came out were cooked. car has been running so much better the passed couple days!
also....if anyone saw my style 264 wheels for sale...i decided to keep them, with a little twist. Im excited to put the tires back on! spending the money on suspension instead of wheels. style 264s are a pretty nice wheel anyway! just a bit too narrow. |

Jb4 on. Love map 5. Got the DCI on and new spark plugs. The car has 41-42k miles and needed plugs BAD from what they looked like. Jb4 is amazing. Highly recommended.

We changed just in case, but glad we did. They were pretty crappy looking. I can't express how much I love map 5. The auto tune map was just so spectacular. Identical driveability while just driving, and tons of power while stomping on it. The DCI sounds neat too.

JB4 does codes. I have no warranty anyway. I had cobb on my evo and the limitations drove me crazy. I'm glad I went with the JB4 this time, just personal preference I guess.
I had it on map 1 and it was 13.5 PSI, which felt cool but kinda "this is it" vibe was going around. Turned it on map 5 (autotuning) and I was right, the car wanted more. Around 17 PSI now. The thing just FLIES. I also plugged back in the cable in my trunk that controls the exhaust flapper, and just used the JB4 to set it open all the time. I also set the fuel gauge as a boost gauge, which is pretty neat. No need for an AFR or boost gauge. It only hijacks the gauges at >50% throttle. I get that the install is FAR easier on cobb for sure, but I felt it was lacking some features. Plus the autotuning map just had me intrigued. I want to eventually run a non-flammable meth setup. It'll add power cheaply AND it'll help prevent carbon build up which as we all know is an issue with this car. The cobb is a set it and forget it solution, with nice reliable maps. It is also easier to get a protune with. The JB4 feels more like you need to do a little work to get it in the car (and I mean a little, the spark plugs were harder to change) but then its there ready to use various maps etc. I'm not knocking cobb for sure, but the JB4 feels more unique and like it was integrated in the car nicer. Can't really go wrong with either, but I know its much harder to run meth with cobb, so that was a big factor as well. I debated not even installing the DCI due to heat soak, but I said screw it and did it. Its nice for sure, love the sound. I'll have to monitor my IAT carefully with the JB4, but I don't expect any real issues since I don't do track days. This year I'll be doing New England Dragway when I can, and autox coming up in april. It'll be my first auto x. |

i like the "set it and forget it" feature of the cobb. The most i will do is an upgraded FMIC with the cobb tune. The car is already more than fast enough for me with just the stage 1 aggressive file. like you said, all personal preference. we definitely do need to do a meet soon. I just ordered the H&R sport cup kit (with the supersport springs = moar low) and should hopefully be mounting my tires on my style 264's tomorrow at work. now only if the weather would cooperate.
