Anyone could have punched my number in the website and seen the status, right?

The 800 number part baffles me
The 800 number part does sound strange, since that is usually much more accurate than the website. Did your CA give you the actual print out that showed your production number, your name, delivery location, options, and status code from BMW NA?

No, she gave it to me over the phone. Yes, anyone could presumably have entered the number into the website and seen the same thing. I thought it might have been someone else's "real" number, but then it would have been in the 1-800 system; therefore, I lean towards believing the "glitch" allocation theory. If that's the case, it means she (a) didn't know about the glitch, or (b) knew about it and was hoping BMW would fill her orders...on a very limited edition vehicle. The end result is the same unfortunately.

So, if you have a production number and are seeing a status code, you're probably fine. I didn't and just assumed they'd get to it eventually. She apparently had 4 others in front of me who are now also in the same boat.

Something similar happened to me. My CA called me with a production number that was status 105. I could track it in the website, but it never worked well with the 1-800 number. I kept getting kicked out of the automated system and had to talk to live support. After a few days, they could no longer see the number via the 1-800 system. I talked to my CA and he said they had a glitch of some sort and would get back to me. A few days later, he sent me a new production number. That production number has now entered porduction and I have a date for PCD. I think everything is good, but after some of these horror stories, you never seem to know for sure.

I'd be asking for $100 for each and every superfluous exclaimation mark and capitalised word in her missive.

Had there been any question about it, I would have been pursuing a third option over the last 3 months. Guess I'll look at an Audi or a Porsche, because I don't really feel like giving my money to BMW at this point.
Welcome to my world, except in my case the deposit was (beginning of March) with a very large dealership who says he was one of the most 1M allocation dealership in the country and they got only 3 allocations, and in the case of the second waiting list I got kicked off it because while they had initially told me MSRP they came back on that promise a few month later asking for a substantial markup and telling me 'we dropped you off the list because you're already on a waiting list at MSRP with another dealership' (!).

At this point I'm like you and I really don't feel like giving BMW any of my $, I think this production being so limited is going to back-fire on them to some extend because a lot (if not most) of the people wanting a 1M were not existing M customers or even existing BMW customer that are now feeling angry at BMW (at least in the US with the outrageous dealer markups and that obscure allocation system).

Do like me, send them a message, call them, let them know what you think and that we want more US-bound 1Ms (don't forget to say please at the end, though ).
