My 2 cents worth; Sadly, my state (Tasmania) has its fair share of characters whose idea's are marginal at best and often extreme, uneducated and sometimes dangerous. I have met many Americans and visited the country more than 10 times over the past 25 years. The vast majority of them have been kind, friendly, and definitely opposed to firearms. They are proudly democratic and believe in the rights of individuals. Their willingness to help their neighbors and donate to charities always impressed me.
Australians appear to be a little more easy-going and I think we have a tendency to avoid conflict whereas Americans 'seem to' be more vocal about their rights. We probably need to be careful about generalisations. I believe we have more in common than we have differences.

I totally agree with Prof on this one. I also lived in the US (albeit only for 6 months) and spent a lot of time there in my investment banking days. The intellectual divide in that country is mind boggling compared to Australia. But geez they have some pretty smart people there! One thing I do really like about the US is that they don't suffer from the tall poppy syndrome that we do here. |

Btw, when I first saw the thread, I thought it was about this. Lol. Read the last sentence of the third paragraph.

I have past one driving through Hobart. We do have some nice 911's and I have seen 1 AM vanquish and plenty of nice M cars and AMG Mercs but nothing like Sydney and Melbourne. When I was staying in the West End of London I needed blinkers so I could manage to walk more than 1 block every hour! I couldn't believe the cars parked casually in the street.

London? Sigh, I feel poor everytime I go there. And there are lots of young 20 something Indians and Middle Easterners with their exotics who drive around at night just to show off. I am usually in Parklane when I go there, and it's a feast for the eyes for sure.

One of my clients who works over at UNC's school of business tells me the "tall poppy" doesn'te exist over there. I have to say this is one of the things we don't have in our favour here. |

When I visited NYC I don't recall walking around town with my jaw dragging on the ground like I do in London. It may be all the bland US cars stopping me seeing the nice ones.

So how many times did you shoot and kill yourself? And who said killing was a pleasure...it's work, hard work By the way, I've never met an Aussie I didn't like. You guys sure talk funny:drinking: Call

The Second Amendment
Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The right to bear arms was to maintain a civilian militia prior to to the advent of a regular armed forces. I believe that the intent of the founding fathers has been hijacked by interest groups like the NRA. Just my $0.02

Now, mattyv, i recommend that your contempt, prejudice and view to the US of A in whole be rectified. Like any country or society, we have our misgivings and i admit that. Stop the verbal abuse, i know you are a proud person or i will let you trace your roots.

Okay.. I'll admit this was likely started as a tongue in cheek thread, but it's gotten out of hand.
