Mods under warranty

For those of you with cars still under warranty, do you take the time to bring your car back to stock before bringing your car in for the free maintenance? Does BMW service centres even care or is this being overly cautious? Or does it completely vary depending on the BMW dealership?

Depends on the modifications, what do you have or plan on getting?

I haven't settled on what mods I want yet but I'm thinking typical stuff that people have done on this forum: Koni yellows/spring or TCK S/A, and something to the exhaust (still on the fence whether I want to deal with catless headers). Tune if I do get catless headers. Maybe subframe bushings if I feel confident enough to do do it myself (or if I feel like it's worth paying big money to get them installed at a shop).

Both of these will be pretty annoying to have to revert to stock every time I go back to BMW for my free maintenance. I had my car for less than a year so I'm wondering if I should just wait till later on when my warranty is expired (or nearer to expiring) before making the modifications.

If there is no damage traceable to your modifications it doesn't matter if they are on or off when you go to the dealer. If there is damage, the dealer won't fix that but should do anything else required.

That's primarily for warranty repairs, maintenance will continue normally with bolt ons and suspension modifications.

My dealership flags for tunes, but will continue to honor free maintenance. That being said, one of my brake sensors failed, and was not replaced under warranty because of my aftermarket pads. Once, while waiting for maintenance, I witnessed the look of an absolutely defeated guy having to dish out God knows how much money for new turbos because he left his JB4 on for service previously. My dealership absolutely sucks, check with your SA if you have more specific questions.

My local dealer has always been as transparent and honest as they get. I tell them the mods I have, they worked on car when it had issues without complaint or trying anything sleazy.

Your mileage will likely vary.

Dealership, honesty, and transparent words rarely used together.

Yeah they are pretty weird in that regard.

The other local dealer was taken over by BMWNA as things had gone so far wrong.
